review revista poloneza Teraz Rock
traducere cica:
" It is hardly surprising that Tranquility Hotel divided the fans of the band, part of the rock-orientated critics after the album's premiere started bringing back their words of faith and devotion to the Monkeys. But calm down — refusing to give the album it's “rock label” is like doing the same to David Bowie's Hunky Dory or Lou Reed's Berlin. Without predicting any hypothetical commercial success, it must be emphasized that Turner and his friends created something reckless, visionary, daring, uncompromising and madly ambitious, that you can without a shadow of doubt call a “piece of art”, that with every replay captivates and fascinates even more. Don't be deceived with the first or second listening. It is an album that surely will stay with us for a long time."

Spoiler for :
They released their last, ultrasuccesful, multi-platinum album — AM — five years ago and four years ago, in November 2014, they played what was their last show just until May this year. Ahead of the official release of the new album they didn't share any snippets of what they have been working on — no singles, perish the thought of any video clips. When their new work saw the daylight, everyone — from the fans to the critics — was momentarily speechless. This is how they manage to maintain the status of one of the most important bands in the modern rock scene. Even if, part of the media press claims that Arctic Monkeys are done with rock music.
On the new material the leader of the Monkeys, the 32-year-old Alex Turner, worked without a guitar, instead using a Steinway Vertegrand that he received for his 30th birthday. Supposedly, the room where the instrument was placed was named Lunar Surface, taking inspiration from Stanley Kubrick, and in this atmosphere he had worked on the retrofutursitic, sonical-lyrical concept: a dystopian vision of the future, in which the mankind is forced to escape the destroyed by capitalism Mother Earth and colonize nearby planets. Yet, also settle our very own Moon, on which by the shores of the Sea of Tranquility (where in 1969 Apollo 11 landed) stands the title Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino. The record contains several references, from 2001: Space Odyssey — the Clavius Base appears on Four Out of Five (a track that gives the impression of being a promotional pamphlet for a hotel) to the self-explanatory title Science Fiction. However, it seems that the cosmic concept is just a cover-up for current reflections — both autochthonic journeys of self-discovery (I just wanted to be one of The Strokes, now look at the mess you made me make me — opens up the album), as well as comments on the state of modern people, suppressed by social media and by the amounts of information (taking inspiration from the work of Neil Postman Amusing Ourselves to Death, published in the 80s). The album also presents a harsh critique (???) of the current political climate (The leader of the Free World, reminds you of a wrestler wearing tight golden trunks — states Turner in Golden Trunks, and we can only speculate if he is alluding more to Donald Trump or Boris Johnson). The intellectual overload coming from the lyrics may intimate even the very well-read listeners.
What about the sound layer? Well it's said that when Turner presented his ideas to his band mates, they persuaded him to make it a solo project. As far as the Monkeys appeared to enjoy mixing around with their sound in the past, Tranquility Base turned out to be something unprecedented — not only in their discography but in modern rock music in general. The lack of riffs, lack of catchy melodies, almost no choruses. It's a record lead by keyboard instruments, and that's not only a piano but also a harpsichord, a Wurlitzer electric piano, different types of organs, old synthesizers, decorated with the sounds of a vibraphone and a baritone guitar, all covered up with archaic reverbs and outer-space sound effects. Instead of dynamic, dirty rock we are presented with a piece influenced by soul, old R&B, funk, jazz or even musicals and vaudevilles. The album would turn out well played in a hotel banquet hall (The World's First Ever Monster Truck Front Flip), a bar fogged with cigarette smoke (Science Fiction) or... in the lobby of the Hilton Space Station V from Space Odyssey. On the other hand, the keyboard pam pam pam on One Point Perspective, probably not only for me resembles the hip-hop classic — Dr. Dre's and Snoop Dog's Still D.R.E. More than that, the opening 6-minute anti-commercial Star Treatment would simply be perfect for someone like Drake, to cut a couple of seconds, loop, add a modern beat and make a hit with a milliard views on YouTube. Turner however, intentionally doesn't seem to be seeking commercial success — the album lacks captivating choruses (choosing Four out of Five as the first single singles appears as the only rational step to promote the album), there are memorable melodies but all of them belong to unapparent genres.

Oh, man, why did you have to hype it some more! hehe Can't fuckin' wait!
.......
Asta era partea de WTF, you guys gotta see this shit!. Now you know! You didn't need to know, didn't asked to know, but now you know! I'm sorry! hehehe!

Re: Arctic Monkeys
""Alex Turner caught woman's tights mid-song whilst singing Arabella.. then misses Jamie by a metre" Ha! Nu mai caut acum da' e un video tare cu Turner cu reflexele lui - Helders se juca cu batul la finalul unei piese, gen, il "arunca" tare in cazan (toba din dreapta lui) sa-si ia avant si apoi eventual sa-l prinda in cadere - da' batu' loveste cazanul cam heghes si sare undeva in interiorul scenei. Turner pe faza intinde mana si-l prinde! Turner ramane in pose cu batu-n mana, dupa care il inmaneaza lui Helders! Good times! The kind of shit I remember, daca ma intrebi ce-am mancat ieri habar n-am! hehe
"Nu l-am ascultat. Tu?" Doua "piese" dupa care n-am mai rezistat. A luat-o braila tare Kanye, album cu 7 piese.. Cine stie, mai arunc o ureche in el poate. Deocamdata sunt ocupat cu live-urile astea AM. Really good stuff. Nu eram mare fan - I bet you look on the dancefloor - dar am asculat pe repeat - the bbc version, smooth shit! Helders a rupt fasu' de pe ea cu versiunea aia! Si nici Turner nu e mai prejos, felul in care enunta, he's toying with them, Arctic Monkeys sesiunea asta e marfa top shelf.
