The Room

Post by ola small dickie »

"Like an intricate puzzle box, our examination of the popular series contains multiple layers, with the first three games in a single review."

The Room

The Good:

Inventive puzzles and clever gameplay mechanics
Detailed 3D graphics (PC version far superior than mobile)
Immersive sound effects

The Bad:

“Variations on a theme” puzzle design can feel repetitive
Claustrophobic environment
Very linear

Our Verdict:

Those looking for a full-fledged adventure experience will not find that here, but puzzle game fans will surely fall in love with The Room for its intricate layers of single room challenges to overcome.

The Room Two

The Good:

Fresh and interesting puzzles to solve
No longer limited to a single room, with a diverse range of locations to visit
Same great production values
Evolving storyline getting more interesting

The Bad:

Some puzzles feel as if you have been there before
Even with added locations, gameplay continues to be very linear

Our Verdict:

With many more places to visit and a more tantalizing hint of a story to go with another round of thoroughly engaging gameplay in The Room Two, both puzzle and adventure game fans will find a lot to like in this sequel.

The Room Three

The Good:

Clever puzzles are highly entertaining
Environments to explore are greatly expanded over its predecessors
Looks and sounds as good as ever
Story continues to evolve in a captivating way
Multiple endings are both interesting and challenging to uncover

The Bad:

Iterative changes from previous games are hit-and-miss
Forces you to repeat multiple puzzles to achieve the alternate endings

Our Verdict:

The best game yet in the series, The Room Three is the first to really qualify as a full-fledged puzzle-adventure game, with varied areas to explore, an assortment of new challenges to overcome, and a continuation of the intriguing storyline established in earlier games.
