Riddle of the Sphinx: The Awakening

Post by ola small dickie »

"The HD remake of the Toblers' challenging archeological puzzler looks, sounds and plays better than before but hard-earned answers are as elusive as ever."

The Good:

Beefed-up graphics and environmental effects
Amazing soundtrack pulls you right into Egypt
Solving the many challenging puzzles feels incredibly rewarding
Real-world sites recreated with an impressive amount of accuracy and attention to detail

The Bad:

Open-ended world design leads to tons of backtracking
A few wonky navigation nodes can make orientation difficult at times
Items and clues can be hidden literally anywhere, so getting stuck is no trivial matter

Our Verdict:

The Awakening proves that the twenty years that have passed since Riddle of the Sphinx first released are but a drop in a bucket. With improved visuals, a great soundtrack, and quality-of-life improvements bolstering this tough-as-nails puzzle lover’s dream, the Toblers’ impressive archeological adventure has nicely stood the test of time.
