We Know: GFWL Not Shutting Down Next Week
We are continuing to support the Games for Windows Live service. As previously announced, as part of the retirement of Microsoft Points the Xbox.com PC marketplace was closed. Although customers are unable to purchase new games from the marketplace or receive title updates, they can continue to enjoy previously purchased content by downloading them through the Games for Windows Live client as usual. We remain committed to investing in PC gaming in the years ahead, and look forward to sharing more in the future.
So GFWL will continue to run, for now at least. You can still play your GFWL games, though you can’t patch them (if it uses the GFWL patcher) or buy DLC. The service will inevitably shut down at some point or be rebooted in a new form, as every tech service does. Perhaps Microsoft are simply giving devs a little more time to switch away from GFWL. For all our sake, let’s hope Microsoft handle the eventual shutdown announcement less clumsily. Writing all these vague news stories has been a right pain in my rump.

No Man’s Sky Devs On Uncertainty Around PC Release
“Basically we’re doing a console debut on PS4. That’s all we’re saying right now. But that leaves open a PC version, which we really want to do.”

He was, however, cagey on when a PC version might happen, and he stressed that one hasn’t been formally announced yet. In the wake of that I contacted Hello Games in hopes of getting a response with a little more meat on its bones, a why to accompany the (rather puzzling) what.

Nintendo Investor Says “I Do Not Understand Video Games”
I do not understand video games and I even feel angry because, at Nintendo’s shareholders’ meetings, the shareholders always discuss things relating to video games or such childish topics as “what the future of video games should be,” while I, for one, was flabbergasted that Mr. Iwata continues to hold his position although he had said that he would resign if the company’s performance were bad*.

I hope that Nintendo’s shareholders’ meeting will become an opportunity where the shareholders discuss the company’s business operations from the viewpoints of capital gain and dividends.
the fuck!?! la ce investesti intr-o industrie despre care nu ai habar  nu-i de mirare ca Nintendo(n't) innoata in cacat

Nintendo finds itself under fire from furious shareholders
In the absence of president Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's top executives found themselves under fire at the annual general meeting of shareholders this month, as investors took pot-shots from every angle.

The company has been under severe pressure recently, as it recorded losses last year while sales of its Wii U console continue to fizzle out. While Iwata would normally field the questions, he missed the meeting due to illness.

To give an idea of how tense the back and forth between Nintendo and its investors must have been, when a shareholder suggested that Iwata should try to take it all in his stride a little better, Miyamoto remarks, "Just for your information, I too have been feeling a great deal of anxiety. Mr. Iwata is a president whom I can rely on very much, and I would like to continue this journey with him."

The barrage of tricky, and sometimes odd, questions came thick and fast. One investor asks why Nintendo hasn't given any free games away to its shareholders, while another questions whether the screen of the Nintendo 3DS could be altered such that it can be "manually extended to become twice the size both horizontally and vertically."
Q9: I don't know about games, and don't care about game-related questions, but your shareholders haven't said anything about the stock price dropping. What kind of a shareholder meeting is this? Tell me about the business administration. (audience applause)
A9: Thank you for your pointed opinion. Shareholder meetings are for us to communicate with shareholders. It's important for shareholders to know what we as a company are doing, and what kind of entertainment we are providing.

GameStop’s next step for preorder exclusives: Getting into a big game’s development process
"[GamesStop] indicated that software publishers are more enthusiastic about partnering with it," Baird's Colin Sebastian wrote. "For example, by offering exclusive content on each major game release, and longer term, future models may include GameStop offering exclusive gameplay."

GamesBeat asked him to clarify what exactly that "future model" meant, and Sebastian added the retailer is thinking about "getting involved at the time of game development where there could be some content exclusive to [the retailer] included in the game."

So if you thought it was stupid that peripheral content like skins and maps was split up between retailers, just wait until GameStop can offer actual parts of a game you can't get anywhere else. Then wait for Walmart and Best Buy and Amazon to catch on. It'll be great.

Bundle in a Box comes to an end next month

Cred că încet încet vor dispărea mai toate în afară de Humble și Stars, nici Groupees nu mai stă așa bine de la o vreme.

Fabian Giesen - "I think VR is bad news"
Subject: I want out.

As the subject says, I would like to end my contract with Valve - preferably by
the end of the month, though I realize that's probably too short of a notice.

Part of this has to do with the direction of the project. With AR, there's a
variety of information display/visualization applications, all of which are at
the very least interesting and could turn out to be tremendously empowering in
various ways. The endpoint of VR, on the other hand - all engineering
practicalities of first aiming for a seemingly easier goal aside - seems to be
fundamentally anti-social, completing the sad trajectory of entertainment moving
further and further away from shared social experiences. (As I have mentioned
multiple times, I find the limited, formalized, abstracted and ultimately
alienated social interactions in most forms of online gaming to be immensely
off-putting).

So, at least as VR is concerned, while I find the tech interesting and
challenging, I am deeply ambivalent about what it leads to.

That is not the primary reason for this mail, but it certainly is a factor in
my decision.
