SourceThe Watchtower, , in the age of the Vietnam War, was a metaphor to looking out for yourself, being guarded. Everyone is JUST looking for themselves. Life is this battle to avoid getting hurt. So everyone is guarded about .. everything, their feelings, their opinions, their passions.
SourceAlso, "All Along the Watchtower" was written during the height of the Vietnam War, and watchtowers are part of the iconic scenery of that war, so it's natural to connect one to the other. Overall, the mood is one of danger and suspense rather than outright violence.

Sau explicatia mai simpla e ca unui veteran ii aduce aminte de razboiul din Vietnam pentru ca era o melodie populara in acea vreme.
