Visuals, puzzles and level design all combine to tell a moving, dialogue-free story
Time manipulation is clever and proves incredibly versatile
Beautiful soundtrack
Continually introduces creative new mechanics to match the theme of a given level
The Bad:
Camera isn’t as intuitive as it could be
Keyboard controls can be frustrating
Portions of the central character’s life aren’t examined in much depth
Our Verdict:
Arise uses creative level design, gorgeous visuals and challenging environmental puzzles to explore the length and breadth of a full lifetime. A few presentation issues aside, it’s a moving, thought-provoking experience that tells a complete story with scarcely a word.
