Futuristic strategy game Frozen Endzone has received a huge update that rebrands the game with a new name and updates many of its systems.

Re-named Frozen Cortex, the turn-based Early Access title is also now available on Mac and Linux for the first time.

Indie studio Mode 7 has upgraded the game's AI and significantly improved its loading times and frame-rate - with improvements of between 50 and 100 per cent expected on most hardware.

New stadiums, balls and animations have also been included.

"There are three reasons for the rebrand," Mode 7 explained in a new blog post. "The original name was a bit rubbish and we got bored of it, we think the game looks better like this, some people thought we were making a Madden game with robots: that is not what we're doing.

"Cortex is a simultaneous-turn-based strategy game; a tense competitive contest wrapped up in the trappings of a brutal futuristic sport. It's not a simulation of any existing sport; it takes an influence from football but you can certainly play it without understanding even a smidgen of that particular game."
