This USB Drive Can Nuke A Computer

si a facut comanda de PCB la chinezi ...

original (.ru): http://habrahabr.ru/post/251451/Put simply, the bits inside the USB drive draws and stores a ton of power. When a certain level is hit, it returns the power to the source, which is either a dedicated USB controller or the CPU itself. This is bad news bears. The amount of power returned overloads the circuits, rendering it useless. Since a lot of USB controllers are built directly into the main processor… bye bye computer.

Reuters | AMD To Face Securities Fraud Lawsuit
At the heart of the matter is AMD’s Llano APU. Launched in 2011, in Q3 of 2012 AMD had to take an inventory write-down of $100 million on unsold Llano inventory, as the company had to further reduce prices on the chips in order to sell them in the face of competition from Intel along with the ramp-up of their own Trinity APUs. The writedown in this case did not directly cost the company $100M, but it essentially reduced the value of the company by that much to AMD’s shareholders, whose stock in turn suffered a hit in value.
The participating investors are accusing AMD of committing securities fraud over how they presented the state of Llano production. The suit claims that Llano production was not as strong as AMD was claiming – a consequence of supply issues with GlobalFoundries’ 32nm process – and as a result AMD artificially inflated the value of the company in 2011 and 2012, and in the process produced too many Llano chips once GlobalFoundries was finally able to catch up. This in turn led to AMD’s $100M writedown and overall decline in value of the company and its stock price (with AMD losing about ¾ of its peak value in 2012).

You can now run Android apps on a Mac or PC with Google Chrome
Google’s convergence of Chrome and Android is taking a big step forward this week. After launching a limited App Runtime for Chrome (ARC) back in September, Google is expanding its beta project to allow Android apps to run on Windows, OS X, and Linux. It’s an early experiment designed primarily for developers, but anyone can now download an APK of an existing Android app and launch it on a Windows / Linux PC, Mac, or Chromebook.
You simply need to download the ARC Welder app and obtain APKs from Google’s Play Store. There are some limitations: only one app can be loaded at a time, and you have to select landscape or portrait layout and whether you want the app to run in phone- or tablet-style. However, you can load multiple apps by selecting the download ZIP option in Arc Welder and extracting it and then enabling extension developer mode to load the folder of the extracted APK. During my testing I’ve found that most apps run really well. There are some exceptions like Gmail and Chrome for Android that throw up Google Play Services errors, but that’s not because ARC doesn’t support them. Developers will need to optimize their apps for ARC, and some Google Play Services are also supported right now, making that process a lot easier.

GIGABYTE passes ASUS, becomes the leading motherboard vendor
Since demand for motherboards from Europe and China is still weak, motherboard players such as Micro-Star International (MSI), Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) and Biostar are expected to see shipments decline in 2015. The top-2 vendors Asustek Computer and Gigabyte Technology may not be able to achieve their 20 million-unit target of the year as their shipments for the first half are both expected to only reach around nine million units, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
Overall PC demand remained weak in the first quarter of 2015. Tablets and smartphones continued to cannibalize PCs. In Europe, PC sales shrank dramatically amid the euro's depreciation. In China, PC demand from tier-1 to tier-3 cities had reached saturation, while deployments in tier-4 to tier-6 cities still needed more time to complete.
Because of weak visibility and poor channel sales, most motherboard players have been reducing their orders for the first half.
Gigabyte shipped about 4.7-4.8 million brand motherboards in the first quarter, while Asustek's volume came to about 4.5 million. The two players currently account for 80% of China's motherboard market.
MSI and ASRock are estimated to ship 2.8-3.2 million motherboards each in the first half and may only achieve less than 6.5 million units each for 2015.
ASRock is already seeing a slight rise in profits from the motherboard business, but its shipment volume in 2015 is expected to be a lot weaker than those in the previous years. MSI's motherboard business had break-even operation in 2014 but is unlikely to see significant profit growth in 2015.
Seeing weakening demand for motherboards, MSI has turned to focus on the gaming notebook business, while ASRock is developing products for the IPC server market.

Your Tor-based email isn't as secure as you think
A recent security breach just provided a painful reminder that Tor's anonymity network isn't completely foolproof against truly determined intruders. The email service SIGAINT is warning users that someone recently launched a sustained attempt to break into its servers and snoop on messages. While that direct attack wasn't successful, the culprit also tried setting up malicious exit nodes (where data reaches the normal internet) in hopes of spying on messages the moment they left Tor. The chances of actually connecting to one of these rogue routers was slim (about 2.7 percent), but you clearly wouldn't have enjoyed winning this lottery.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti confirmed to feature 6GB memory

First of all, we can confirm that the next installment in GeForce 900 series is codenamed GTX 980 Ti. NVIDIA took the same path as with TITAN BLACK and GTX 780 Ti. GTX TITAN X will continue to offer maximum memory capacity (12GB), while GeForce GTX 980 Ti just a half of this enormous frame buffer (6GB).
Both cards share the same board model and probably the same reference cooler. The difference is, GTX 980 Ti will be available with custom cooling solutions (unlike TITAN X, although there are few exceptions).
We are aware of few GTX 980 Ti models already. We can tell you to expect a full variety of coolers: reference, custom-air-cooled, watercooled and hybrids.
We can also confirm that GTX 980 Ti will have five display outputs: three DisplayPorts, HDMI and DVI-I, so same as TITAN X. We were unable to confirm the existence of ‘metal enhanced edition’, so I wouldn’t probably pay too much attention to this rumor.
What still remains unconfirmed are the specifications. Although everyone is confident GTX 980 Ti has full GM200 silicon, we cannot confirm this to you just yet. We can however confirm, that GeForce GTX 980 Ti will sport GM200-310 GPU. How does it differ from GM200-400? We don’t know (yet).

Mozilla Security Blog - Deprecating Non-Secure HTTP
F.A.Q. .pdfToday we are announcing our intent to phase out non-secure HTTP.
There’s pretty broad agreement that HTTPS is the way forward for the web. In recent months, there have been statements from IETF, IAB (even the other IAB), W3C, and the US Government calling for universal use of encryption by Internet applications, which in the case of the web means HTTPS.
After a robust discussion on our community mailing list, Mozilla is committing to focus new development efforts on the secure web, and start removing capabilities from the non-secure web. There are two broad elements of this plan:
Setting a date after which all new features will be available only to secure websites
Gradually phasing out access to browser features for non-secure websites, especially features that pose risks to users’ security and privacy

Google Can't Ignore The Android Update Problem Any Longer
[...]
This update "system," if you can call it that, ends up leaving the vast majority of Android users with security holes in their phones and without the ability to experience new features until they buy new phones (which is sadly a kind of planned obsolescence as well). This can't be an acceptable state of affairs for Google, and it shouldn't be. Google already has a great six-week update system for Chromebooks, and it's time to have Android catch up to that, as well.
