Se mai poate înscrie oricine! Doar postați și vă trec pe listă, asta e valabil și după ce începe jocul, atât doar că plecați cu dezavantajul alegerilor deja făcute, ce nu se pot repeta.

Regulament pentru etapa de postare:

1. 10 alegeri pentru fiecare participant, toate trebuie să fie unice pentru că e un domeniu vast și wilcard-urile nu au sens. În plus, fiecare alegere va fi o melodie, nu un album, așadar opțiunile cresc și mai mult.

2. Un participant nu are voie să aleagă mai mult de o melodie aparținând aceluiași artist.

3. Nu se pot alege melodii de la draft-urile anterioare:

4. 24h timp de postare, de preferat să trimiteți un reminder următorului la rând, ori ca e PM, mesaj pe Steam, whatever.

...în 2017 ceatrecuttimpulfml, dar e ok, oricum draft-ul ca și concept e numai bun pentru boșorogi.

Music Draft 2! Acest draft se vrea sa fie mai lejer; descrierile sunt optionale, timpul de postare de 12 ore, singurul lucru impus va fi un link catre youtube. De mentionat ar fi faptul ca puteti pune melodii luate din diverse coloane sonore.

Reguli:
- O singura melodie pe formatie pentru fiecare lista
- Fara clasica

Posting stage
- Fiecare concurent va avea o lista compusa din 11 melodii iar fiecare melodie insotita de un link catre youtube. Artwork-urile sunt incurajate dar nu obligatorii.
- Prima alegere va fi libera; nu conteaza ordinea de postare.
- Fiecare jucator va posta apoi, in ordinea predefinita cate o melodie. Orice melodie postata de catre cineva nu va mai putea fi aleasa de catre celelalte persoane.
- Fiecare jucator va avea la dispozitie 12 de ore pentru a posta, in caz contrar fiind sarit, iar urmatorul jucator putand posta alegerea. Jucatorul "sarit" poate posta oricand alegerea sa.
- Trimiteti PM urmatorului la rand dupa ce ati postat.

Descrieri [optional]
- Ca o sugestie: Ar fi fain ca fiecare melodie sa fie insotita de o recomandare, ori pentru alte melodii ale respective formatiei sau catre un album. Este incurajat sa postati versurile in cazul in care acestea sunt punctul forte a melodiei.

Dueling Stage
- Vom folosi sistemul clasic de eliminare, fara loser's bracket.
- Dupa fiecare runda de duleuri participantii au dreptul la inca o alegere.

!!!IMPORTANT!!!
Reguli cu privire la votarea in dueluri si argumentarea voturilor
- Se iau in considerare doar voturile celor care au votat in minim 75% din duelurile din acea runda.
- Votul argumentat nu este obligatoriu si nu va insemna un punct in plus pentru respectivul participant, daca vreti insa ca participantul respectiv sa castige, nu strica putina campanie electorala.
- Nu votati va rog daca nu ati ascultat toate melodiile postate, nu ar trebui sa fie greu daca tineti pasul cu draft-ul.

Am hotarat sa ii dedic un loc fruntas acestei minunate voci - nimeni altul decat Greg Lake, fostul vocalist (si cel mai bun imo) al King Crimson. Si ce alta melodie sa aleg daca nu The Sage, unde vocea lui angelica se contopeste cu minunata chitara acustica si creeaza cantecul perfect.
Cat despre album, este o adaptare live dupa lucrarea pianistului rus Modest Mussorgsky ce poarta acelasi nume. Nu prea am cum sa fac si alte recomandari de pe album, fiindca nu prea merge rupt pe bucati dar daca chiar e cineva interesat try The Great Gates of Kiev.

My favourite song from my favourite band. Power Pop ftw! Recomand toate melodiile de pe album. Ba chiar recomand toate cele 3 albume ale tipilor (interesanta tranzitia de la stilul primelor 2 albume la cel de-al treilea). Catchy as fuck. As asculta toata ziua pe repeat oricare cantec al lor si nu m-as plictisi. Also, garantez ca nu veti mai auzi ceva asemanator. Au un stil inconfundabil, unic, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious etc.

Death Grips e trupa care a revoluţionat rap-ul pentru mine. Un tobar care bate cu cătuşe la mâini, un tip care face cele mai fucked up negative din lume, abrazive şi bizare, şi un monstru de MC care-şi contorsionează cuvintele şi corpul în cele mai ciudate feluri. Au devenit şi mai celebri după ce şi-au încălcat în mod intenţionat contractul cu Sony ca să-i dea afară din label, lansând gratuit pe site-ul lor ultimul album. Încă încerc să înţeleg torentele alea de versuri, dar nu cred că o să reuşesc prea curând. Au piese mult mai dure şi interesante decât Get Got, dar asta mă unge la suflet acum.

2013 e anul în care Papa Emeritus II a ocupat tronul luciferic, înlăturându-l pe predecesorul său şi aducând trupei Ghost un sound uşor schimbat, mai romantic, mai melancolic şi mult mai melodic, dar şi o atmosferă mult mai bogată şi luxuriantă. Unul dintre cele mai bune albume din 2013, acest Infestissunam, iar Monstrance Clock este una dintre favoritele mele. Este aproape ca un lullaby şi am fredonat de sute de ori până acum refrenul:

Come together for Lucifer's son"

Black metal emoţional cu influenţe shoegaze şi post-rock, prestaţii intense şi încărcate de sentimente, cămăşi stilate şi skinny jeans în loc de mantii negre şi corpsepaint, versuri despre părinţi înstrăinaţi şi dorinţa de a trăi într-o casă frumoasă, dar şi inteligenţa de a trage linia între artă şi realitate, de a şti, în acelaşi timp, să te bucuri de viaţă, să te îmbeţi cu prietenii şi să petreci timp alături de cei dragi - într-un cuvânt, Deafheaven, hipsterii care au pus black metal-ul înapoi pe hartă pentru mine. Recomandat mai ales dacă nu vă place black metal.

Nici nu mai ştiu cum am dat de Cloudeater, dar mă bucur că i-am găsit. Este un hibrid foarte cool de alternative şi electro, plin de beat-uri melancolice ca pe Massive Attack şi diverse texturi electronice. Excelent de la un cap la altul. Din păcate, aud că s-au despărţit după ce-au lansat albumul ăsta. Feels bad man.


Am băgat destule rahaturi obscure, acum e timpul pentru câteva dintre şlagărele mele favorite all-time, pe care mă rup la petreceri. Take it to the next level!

Dacă nu ştiaţi că black metal-ul, shoegaze-ul şi beat-urile trance se pot combina în mod fericit, aflaţi acum de la GERM, proiectul solo al lui Tim Yatras (ex-Austere). Tremolo riffing, beat-uri dansabile, pterodactyl vocals combinate cu voci curate şi un solo de chitară excelent, la 3:48. Love every minute of it.

Şi cam asta a fost lista mea, unde am adunat câteva dintre obsesiile mele recente. Strict chestii noi, post-2010, fiindcă se face muzică bună şi acum. Good fight, good night!

Team Sleep e un proiect muzical secundar a lui Chino de la Deftones. Recomand albumul de la un capăt la celălalt.

Două dintre cele mai interesante piese ale lui Scott Walker se ascund pe albumul Punishing Kiss al Utei Lemper, album la care au contribuit o mulțime de figuri: Nick Cave, Elvis Costello, Philip Glass, Tom Waits și alții. Bănuiam că îmi va fi greu să aleg dintre capodoperele lui Walker (Farmer in The City, Clara, Tilt, The Electrician, Light, etc, etc), dar se întâmplă că Scope J e printre primele ”remedii” pe care simt nevoia să le folosesc când mă rod anxietățile. O dau tare și o las să mă înghită. Mai menționez doar că versurile se cer ascultate, nu citite.


2. Gene Clark - Strength Of Strings (No Other, 1974)

Trebuia să o am în listă. Toate cover-urile This Mortal Coil mi s-au părut excelente, Strength of Strings fiind singura excepție clară, singura piesă pe care consider că au pocit-o. Nu că n-ar suna bine, dar au ciunțit-o și i-au smuls inima. Totuși fără This Mortal Coil n-aș fi știut de ea, așa că nu mă plâng. Masterpiece.


3. King Missile - Ed (King Missile, 1994)

Nu găsesc pe youtube o versiune decentă. Am urcat-o pe trilulilu.

Printre alte calități, King Missile a rămas de departe cea mai amuzantă trupă pe care am ascultat-o vreodată, o bijuterie a anilor '90, pe care am descoperit-o mult mai târziu. Iar Ed e printre cele mai nihiliste chestii pe care le puteți asculta. Asta dacă o puteți asculta cum trebuie - eu doar cu Sennheiserele mele scumpe aud clar povestioara pe care o recită John S. Hall în fundal. Dacă nu, și dacă nu vă convinge partea instrumentală, lăsați-o pe altă dată și ascultați The Dishwasher - prima mea alegere, până m-am gândit la Ed.

Îi știam ca membri ai Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. La un moment dat gugălesc mirobolanta trupă și din link în link aflu că domnișoara Carla și domnișorul Matthias s-au unit în căsnicie și într-un nou proiect muzical care din nume în nume a ajuns să se cheme Rabbit Rabbit. Nu-s neapărat topit după ei, dar se mențin creativi și proaspeți, așa că stau cu urechile pe ei, în caz că mai nasc piese ca primele două din volumul 1. Sau Paper Prison. Sau Tiny Invasion din al doilea.

Sunt un mare fan al hiphopului si as pune mai multe melodii din acest minunat gen daca userii level n-ar fi fost niste elitisti care discrediteaza orice artist care scoate mai mult de trei silabe pe minut. Nu e printre cele mai cunoscute, dar cu siguranță este printre preferatele mele. Tom Waits a experimentat cu toate genurile cunoscute și necunoscute, dar îmi place în special perioada în care cânta jazz și călătorea prin toată Europa precum ultimul hipster care a renunțat la facultate după primul semestru din anul 1. Spre dezamăgirea unora și fericirea altora, în această perioadă încă nu începuse să cânte cu vocea lui de ghiavol, asta nu-l face mai puțin Tom Waits decât era.

O sa incerc probabil de acum incolo sa postez numai melodii ale caror albume/formatii nu merita foarte multa investigatie; momente fugare de inspiratie si linii melodice care mi-au ramas blocate in subconstient luni de-a randul.

O infuzie delicioasa de tempo-uri latino, acorduri jazz, linii melodice care iti raman in cap mult dupa ce melodia se termina si cel mai bengos solo la sitara electrica. Ce, credeati ca e o chitara electrica acolo la 2:39? Ha, nu.

In rest, Steely Dan sunt o formatie extrem de traditionala (a se citi: cheesy as fuck), in ciuda faptului ca sunt numiti dupa un dildo dintr-un roman de William Burroughs si ca pe coperta primului lor album se afla mai multe prostituate in asteptarea clientilor. Majoritatea albumelor scoase de ei sunt extrem de sedate, ganditi-va la un Fleetwood Mac mai lenes dar mult, mult mai apt din punct de vedere tehnic.

Cateva recomandari de la ei ar mai fi Change of the Guard, tot de pe Can't Buy a Thrill si Aja, de pe albumul cu acelasi nume.

Pentru ca Dick Sanders si Marcello Mastrioianni

Greu sa faci o lista pentru draft-ul asta, sa pun epice de 20+ minute care m-au obsedat saptamani intregi? sa pun chestii care au influentat generatii intregi? chestii triste? chestii vesele? Ma bucur ca nu prea ma intereseaza versurile cand ascult muzica ca altfel mai aveam inca un criteriu de selectie si nu stiu daca mai rezistam.

Vroiam initial sa ma uit pe last.fm la ce melodii am ascultat cel mai mult, poate asa imi usuram munca, dar nu merge, prima pagina e plina de Pink Floyd, Phideaux si Opeth. Pe primul loc e Wish You Were Here, cea e absurd, nici nu tin minte cand am ascultat-o ultima oara separata de restul albumului si nici nu imi amintesc sa fi avut vreodata o afectiune deosebita pentru respectiva melodie. Ma jur.

Ah, am contul din 2008, that might explain things.

Luam o pauza de la programul nostru obisnuit pentru a va prezenta o sectiune din O mie și una de nopți, in interpretarea grupului vocal-instrumental Renaissance; va dorim o auditie placuta.

Recomand Live at Carnegie Hall din '76, albumul fiind un best-of al formatiei, nimic din ce au scos ulterior nu s-a ridicat la nivelul albumelor de pana in 1976, iar respectiva inregistrare live imita aproape perfect variantele de studio; lucru in mod normal m-ar irita daca nu ar fi prestatia fenomenala a Annie Haslam.

Mother Russia e probabil cea mai buna piesa a lor, dar cred ca ati observat mult prea bine ca am o slabiciune pentru compozitiile lungi care reusesc sa-mi pastreze atentia pe toata durata lor; oricum, amandoua sunt geniale.

Si nu, nu sunt prog, ai inteles Stokkolm? Am evitat acest gen muzical pana acum de dragul tau, sper ca apreciezi asta .

Am auzit prima data aceasta piesa acum 6 ani in cadrul unui concert acustic sustinut de Anathema la Preoteasa. Good times.

Restul albumului e bun, plin de melodii relaxate si calde, alternand intre trip-hop, chillout si balade. Asta e singura melodie care a reusit sa mi se intipareasca in minte insa.

10. Isao Tomita - The Sea named Solaris (Kosmos, 1978)

O sa trisez si eu nitel si o sa pun o melodie de influenta clasica; Tomita are o colectie impresionata de albume in care orchestreaza electronic diverse compozitii clasice; totul de la Debussy la Ravel la Holst la Bach la Stravinsky, tipul era foarte plorific.

The Sea Named Solaris este o alaturare minunata a doua compozitii Bach: "Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ" si "Three-Part Invention No. 2 in C Minor", iar rezultatul acestei reorchestrari este pur si simplu divin, in special catre finalul suitei.

Nu as sti ce sa mai recomand de la Tomita, banuiesc ca depinde de gusturile voastre in materie de muzica clasica. Finalul suitei Firebird si Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun ar fi fost alternative bune.

Ah, era sa uit sa mentionez unde am auzit prima data dulcele sunet al acestei compozitii: seria Cosmos a lui Carl Sagan, al carei coloane sonora contine si Heaven & Hell si Alpha de la Vangelis. Ce altceva sa mai vrei?


11. Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill (Peter Gabriel I, 1977)

Varianta live de pe Growing Up e geniala, Peter canta melodia zambind in timp ce merge pe o bicicleta.

Sunt indecis intre asta, Sledgehammer, My Body is a Cage (si ca tot vorbim de cover-uri, in Street Spirit (Fade Out) ai impresia ca fabrica melodiei se dezintegreaza pe masura ce o canta, great stuff), Biko, Blood of Eden sau Signal to Noise; pe care canta si Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, si cu care a mai colaborat pe coloana sonora a filmului The Last Temptation of Christ.

Probabil ca celelalte piese sunt mai bune, dar draft-ul parca are nevoie de mai multa muzica vesela, iar Solsbury Hill cu siguranta satisface din punctul asta de vedere.

Nu puteam concepe sa-mi fac lista fara sa includ Dolores in a Shoestand, varianta magistrala din Hamburg. O bucata de Jazz mai energetica, vesela si jucausa nu cred ca veti auzi prea curand, si daca da, anuntati-ma si pe mine.

Intreg concertul e asa, orice angoasa specifica genului sau a eforturilor anterioare ale formatiei aproape ca lipseste cu desavarsire iar atunci cand se iveste este incet metamorfozata in ceva mult mai sublim. Punctul forte al concertului este indubitabil Dolores, Esbjörn se joaca permenant cu melodia, transformand-o intr-un ritm din ce in ce mai accelerat pana ajunge la apogeul energetic si la catharsis.

Nici nu se compara cu varianta de studio.

Recomand restul concertului in mod evident, este fenomenal de la cap la coada.

Recomand si albumul complet, mai ales pentru partea de poveste care este prezentata prin intermediul unei serii de videoclipuri (Testarossa Autodrive, Protovision, Odd Look, Dead Cruiser) si a primei melodii, Prelude. Detaliile sunt insa foarte ambigue; ce trebuie retinut este ca protagonistul, Kavinsky, e un pseudo-zombie foarte bad ass din anii '80, cu puteri supranaturale si un Ferrari Testarossa.

Daca ar fi sa aleg o singura trupa pe care sa o ascult tot restul vietii, aceasta ar fi, fara discutie, Nightwish. Vechiul Nighwish, cu Tarja. Noul Nightwish e cocalaresc si infantil, ramanand doar o umbra a trupei care a fost o data. Acestea fiind spuse, mi-a fost fenomenal de greu sa aleg o singura melodie de la ei. Initial am vrut sa iau Over the Hills and far away. Nu ca as considera-o cea mai buna, insa este melodie care m-a facut sa ma indragostesc de aceasta trupa. Insa m-am gandit ca nici o melodie pe care au scos-o nu pune in evidenta mai bine calitatile vocale ale Tarjei mai mult decat Wishmaster. Iar asta se vede cand solista de acum a incercat sa o cante pe la diverse concerte. E o melodie grea, o melodie care iti forteaza vocea pana la refuz. O melodie pe care o termini de ascultat si o mai vrei inca o data. Si inca o data.


O sa incerc sa fac o lista cat mai diversificata. Am inceput cu symphonic/gothic metal. Continuam cu black. Ajungem si la hiphopareala mai tarziu.

Nu stiu ce, insa trupa asta are ceva ce ma face sa o ascult cand ma joc. In special melodia Flames. Ce rahat de descriere, ziceti. Bun. De acord. Pentru ca melodia ti se intipareste pe creier. Pentru ca probabil asta e unul dintre cele mai bune trailere pe care le-am vazut vreodata (not a trace of that "EPIC!" Inception bullshit). Atunci cand am vazut la TG album art-ul Mezzanine am avut un scurt moment de panica. Apoi am citit "Angel", m-am linistit.

Ce pot sa spun? Nu-mi pot imagina o buna bucata perioada din viata fara cele doua albume Mezzanine (1998) si 100th Window (2003). Singurele albume pe care mai puteam sa adorm in zbuciumata-mi adolescenta (cum sunt toate de altfel), in caz contrar intrand deseori pe terenul insomniei.
Proces: se cauta un moment al zilei linistit, preferabil dupa lasarea intunericului, te asezi frumos in pat, dai volumul tare tare, asculti albumul, te uiti pe pereti / stai cu ochii inchisi, lasi imaginatia sa-si faca treaba. E permisa si administrarea de substante alternative...

Stiam sigur pe cine voi alege pe prima pozitie: pe Nick Cave il consider cel mai bun textier vreodata - a si fost publicat in volum de poezii, pe langa cele doua romane -, iar pe cei de la The Bad Seeds una dintre cele mai cameleonice si provocatoare formatii din ultimii 20-30 de ani - e de ajuns sa comparati sound-ul punk-rock din anii '80 cu orchestratia de mai sus, ca sa nu mai vorbesc de albumele lor concept (The Firstborn is Dead). Au reusit tot timpul sa se reinventeze, sa nu se repete, iar asta fara sa asculte neaparat de dictatul modei (cum face Depeche Mode, de ex.).

A fost foarte greu sa ma decid in privinta unei melodii, in schimb, si nici acum nu sunt foarte sigur. Nu sunt prea multe de spus, cred ca muzica "vorbeste" de la sine. Intregul album este excelent, in aceeasi nota melancolica si usor "aloof", cu insertii delicate de vioara, dar personal consider capodopere indiscutabile: Hallelujah, Oh My Lord, Fifteen Feet of Pure White Snow, The Sorrowful Wife , We Came Along This Road. Nelipsita ar trebui sa fie lecturarea versurilor, evident.

Sa speram acum ca Nick nu afla ca l-am inscris intr-un concurs.

Nu, am vrut sa pun Metropolis, care este melodia mai buna poate, obiectiv vorbind. Dar n-am fost in stare, The Model e una dintre acele chestii care a vorbit atat de simplu si direct sufletului/spiritului/creierului/in fine meu incat nu pot sa nu fiu rusinos de subiectiv. Tot albumul este foarte bun, si pentru ca stiu ca sunteti lenesi, iata-va melodiile intr-o oarecare ierarhie de gust: The Man Machine, The Robots, Spacelab, Neon Lights.

LE: bai, cum suna si Metropolis. Stau acum cu-o sticla de vin si casti pe urechi, si nu-mi vine sa cred. In fine, luati-o pe care vreti, ambele sunt geniale.

- Cat mai putine albume live - Albume/Inregistrari live care sa fie mai bune din punct de vedere sonor si auditiv ca albumele de studio ale aceleiasi formatii sunt relativ rare, ar fi deci de evitat mai ales ca cineva s-ar putea folosi de ele sa ocoleasca prima regula Problema este desigur ca exista exceptii si ca unele albume live chiar sunt mai bune decat intreg output-ul unei formatii. Ar fi de preferat deci o argumentare corespunzatoare in cazul in care includeti un album live.
- Un singur album pe formatie - Chiar daca nu-i strict interzis incercati sa evitati ocolirea regulii prin includerea albumelor Solo are membrilor cum ar fi Irefutabil (Parazitii) si Condoleante (Ombladon) de exemplu. Vor exista desigur exemple unde diferenta va fi destul de mare incat regula poate fi ignorata. erata: regula e valabila pentru fiecare lista in parte, oricine e liber sa aleaga alt album Pink Floyd incepand cu runda a 2-a de exemplu.
- Fara soundtracks - O sa avem probabil un draft pentru ele la un moment dat si ne-am departa prea mult de la scopul draft-ului actual. Desigur, daca cineva include Soundtrack from the Film More de exemplu nu cred ca se supara nimeni. Ideea e sa excludem chestii precum GTA San Andreas - K-DST.

Posting stage
- Fiecare concurent va avea o lista compusa din 11 albume. Fiecare album va fi insotit de catre o imagine cat mai sugestiva, plus o descriere. Nota: Ma astept ca pe la sfarsit fiecare sa mai aibe inca 30 de albume de postat, o prelungire a rundelor de postare n-ar fi deloc un lucru rau.
- Prima alegere va fi libera; nu conteaza ordinea de postare.
- Fiecare jucator va posta apoi, in ordinea predefinita cate un joc. Orice joc postat de catre cineva nu va mai putea fi ales de catre celelalte persoane.
- Ordinea postarilor va fi stabilita prin tragere la sorti de catre mine [sorry, fara filmulet, nu am aparat foto iar webcam-ul se vede foarte prost]
- Fiecare jucator va avea la dispozitie 48 de ore pentru a posta, in caz contrar fiind sarit, iar urmatorul jucator putand posta alegerea. Jucatorul "sarit" poate posta oricand alegerea sa.

Descrieri
- Spre deosebire de draft-urile precedente nu voi impune prea multe restrictii aici. Ca o regula de baza as dori un artwork, un link catre una sau mai multe exemple de muzica pentru albumul respectiv si o descriere din care sa rezulte genul muzical.
- O sa aveti voie sa dati copy paste din wiki sau din recenzii care v-au placut
- Sectiuni de trivia sunt incurajate dar deloc obligatorii, la fel cu includerea unor versuri mai faine
- Incercati sa stabiliti o recomandare rezonabila pentru cantitatea de timp necesara pentru a absorbi albumul, ex: Daca nu iti place piesa 2 poti sari peste acest album caci nu iti va place deloc/Este necesar macar auditiei primelor x piese pentru a intelege intentia albumului.

Dueling Stage
- In momentul de fata suntem 12 participanti, in prima runda vom elimina doar 4 jucatori folosind dueluri de cate 3, urmand ca dupa aceea sa trecem la sistemul clasic prin eliminare, daca ne vom mai aduna pe parcurs putem schimba sistemul fara prea mari probleme.
- Dupa fiecare runda de duleuri participantii au dreptul la inca o alegere.

Reguli cu privire la votarea in dueluri si argumentarea voturilor
- Se iau in considerare doar voturile celor care au votat in minim 75% din duelurile din acea runda.
- Votul argumentat nu este obligatoriu si nu va insemna un punct in plus pentru respectivul participant, daca vreti insa ca participantul respectiv sa castige, nu strica putina campanie electorala.
- Votantii au insa obligatia de a audia cel putin acele sectiuni recomandate de catre participanti. Nu votati va rog daca nu ati ascultat macar o parte din fiecare album.

Mi se pare interesant modul in care se formeaza preferintele muzicale ale unui om. Mereu se porneste de undeva din copilarie. Muzica ascultata la radio/casetofon (de cand n-am mai folosit cuvantul asta..)/televizor, muzica ascultata de parinti, muzica ascultata de prieteni, anumite experiente marcante, toate acestea impreuna fac ca unora sa le "vorbeasca" un gen de muzica si altora alt gen.

Pentru mine mereu a fost mai importanta melodia decat versurile. Armonia melodica, ritmul, tactul, astea sunt lucrurile care ma fac sa simt ceva. Din punctul meu de vedere versurile trebuie sa vina doar ca un bonus, sa accentueze o stare sau sa adauge MAI multa melodicitate. Exista atatea trupe si piese considerate unanim valoroase care pe mine ma lasa rece, incat nici nu o sa indraznesc sa pomenesc de ele, ca sa nu iscam discutii inutile. Tolerez aproape orice gen de muzica, ma duc la concerte, in pub-uri, in cluburi si ma simt bine alaturi de oamenii cu care sunt, dar acasa ascult mereu trance.

Daca o sa continu in ritmul asta introducerea risca sa devina un post kilometric, asa ca revin la subiect. Probabil multa lume cunoaste, cu voie sau fara voie, 9 pm de la ATB (Andr Tanneberger). A aparut prin '98 si e piesa care i-a lansat cariera muzicala. Cand am auzit-o prima data, eram prea mic ca sa stiu despre ce gen muzical e vorba sau cine e autorul, dar o foarte buna perioada de timp am fost obsedat de piesa asta. Nu ma puteam satura de ea si aveam impriesa ca nici nu o sa ma satur vreodata. Ceea ce s-a dovedit a fi adevarat.

9 pm a fost inclusa pe albumul de debut, Movin' Melodies, care a fost urmat de Two Worlds si Dedicated. Desi mi-e greu sa trec peste cele trei albume fara sa mentionez cate ceva despre ele, ajung la al 3-lea, cel care este si subiectul acestei alegeri. In timp ce primele doua albume contin piese "clasice" Addicted to Music e genul de album "clasic" in care fiecare piesa e lucrata in asa fel incat sa ai parte de trairi la orice ascultare. E drept ca majoritatea fac apel la experiente mai triste, drept urmare predomina melodiile cu versuri pentru ca mesajul sa fie mai usor de transmis si receptat, dar efectul nu este nicidecum unul amar, ci mai degraba unul dulce-amarui.

Bineinteles ca alegerea aceasta a fost motivata de o doza imensa de subiectivism. Acest album are foarte multa legatura cu ani de liceu, "iubiri" consumate in garsoniere aproape insalubre in care singura forma de entertainment era un CD player.

Vocea melancolica a cantaretei Roberta Carter-Harrison (componenta a trupei Wild Strawberries, desi nu cred ca asta va zice multe) se potriveste cum nu se poate mai bine cu stilul de productie al lui Andre si astfel au venit si rezultatele:

BT (Brian Wayne Transeau) este unul dintre cei mai prolifici producatori de muzica electronica din America de Nord. Poate ca numele nu va zice nimic, dar cel mai probabil i-ati auzit creatiile prin filme si jocuri.
Am ales al 6-lea sau album, These Hopeful Machines, pentru ca de 2 ani il tot ascult si inca nu m-am saturat! E cheesy, e facut sa placa unui public larg (ceea ce s-a si intamplat, pentru ca a fost nominalizat la premiile Grammy), dar reuseste sa ma bine-dispuna de fiecare data.

BT are o ciudatenie de-a lui, isi alterneza albumele mainstream cu cele mai...ciudate. Si nu e doar o simpla alternare, e un fel de complementare. De exemplu, albumul ce-l precede pe acesta, This Binary Universe, nu este asa de inclinat spre trairile cotidiene, sentimente de cuplu, etc, ci este oarecum mai izoteric (ca sa folosesc cuvinte care ma fac sa ma simt destept). Totusi eu il prefer pe acesta mai naiv pentru ca de multe ori se potriveste cu ceea ce se intampla in jurul meu sau, dimpotriva, face ca zilele grele sa treaca mai usor.

Ma irita ca nu sunt in stare sa-mi aleg mai bine cuvintele pentru a descrie un album. Probabil pentru ca atunci cand vine vorba de muzica sunt prea obisnuit sa ascult si nu sa vorbesc. Si pentru ca unele trairi sunt prea intime pentru a fi impartasite. Asa ca o sa las muzica sa vorbeasca si fiecare sa simta ce poate si ce vrea:

Tri-State, albumul de debut al celor de la Above & Beyond e INCREDIBIL. A fost o adevarata lectie de "asa se face trance!" intr-o perioada in care Tiesto, regele de necontestat al genului (pe-atunci) incepea sa se afunde in mocirla EDM-ului.

Acest prim album, ce contine piese de cult precum Air for Life, Alone Tonight, Can't Sleep si Good for Me i-a propulsat pe DJ-ii britanici in top-uri de unde nu s-au mai dat jos nici pana azi. Si-am ascultat piesele lor zi si noapte, pe trenuri, pe autobuz, pe drumul spre scoala, la scoala, la dentist, la sapa si la cules de malai, dar toate au ramas la fel de proaspete.

Desi nu a trecut asa de mult timp, privesc la muzica de acum 6 ani si la cea de acum si nu-mi vine sa cred ce mare e diferenta. O vreme ma gandeam ca poate am imbatranit eu si ca am ramas blocat pe muzica din liceu, fara sa mai fiu in stare sa diger ce se intampla acum pe scena. DAR SUNT TANAR, DOAMNA, TANAR, iar Above & Beyond au revenit anul acesta cu un al doilea album (de fapt, e cam al treielea, dar nu intru in detalii inca) ca sa confirme ca primul nu a fost doar o intamplare. Deci se poate.

Am ales să-mi formez o listă ce conţine în mare parte formaţii pe care le-am descoperit destul de recent, din cauza asta nu am listă nume grele ce probabil ar fi trebuit să-şi facă apariţia, precum Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode, R.E.M şi aşa mai departe. Consider că lista mea e un fel de "Albume mişto ce merită o ascultare" şi nu cele mai bune albume din istoria omenirii .

1.Ghost - Opus Eponymous 2010 (Heavy Metal)



Pot spune că suedezii de la Ghost au devenit vedete peste noapte, albumul lor de debut reuşind să împartă fanii muzicii rock/metal în două tabere, una care îi consideră pe suedezi cea mai pizdoasă trupă din ultimii ani şi alta care consideră că succesul lor se datorează doar marketing-ului.

Chiar dacă versurile simpliste şi cu temă satanistă nu sunt altceva decât un clişeu folosit de nenumărate alte formaţii, vocea "curată" a solistului oferă un constrast foarte plăcut cu versurile cântate.

O formaţie destul de interesantă, formată din doar 2 membri, deşi primul lor album a fost în mare parte în limba engleză (Doar două cântece în ungureşte) cel de al doilea este complet în ungureşte şi vai, cât de bine sună. Pot spune că muzica lor combină stilul muzicii orientale cu muzica folk ungurească, dând naştere la ceva unic. Deasemenea, trupa foloseşte diferite instrumente tradiţioanle precum Morin khuur şi Fujara.

Trebuie să-i mulţumesc lui Anne, datorită semnăturii ei am descoperit această formaţie, am căutat o melodie pe youtube şi apoi le-am ascultat întreaga discografie. Voi lasa aici un citat dintr-un review şi recomand să ascultaţi tot albumul, fără să săriţi peste vreo melodie.

The music in Necronomicon tells the story of an arrogant sorcerer acting out his evil designs. Accompanying him are disembodied voices both warning and approving, as well as an orchestration of unseen hands playing various instruments. If you listen carefully, you’ll hear the occasional gong of death tolling. The music is true to Lovecraft; harmonic melodies seem to be inspired from folk music from all over the world. “Cthulhu Rising” borrows notes from eastern Europe as the thing’s tentacles creep from murky, watery depths; thin strings whine of Arabic deserts and northern Egyptian breezes in “Temple of the Black Pharaoh.” Pieces like “Eldritch Rites” and “Nyarlathotep” are more theatrical than they are musical; a twisted sorcerer breathes life into ancient rituals through powerful chants and Lovecraft’s words. The musical talent put forth in the CD comes from a variety of sources—however to my trained ear I couldn’t tell if the elements were entirely synthesized or if they were performed in a studio. Translation? No note was off-key, no mistake was made (that I could tell); the performance was flawless, a occult mosaic planned and executed with rhythmic precision.

4. Summoning - Oath Bound 2006 (Black Metal/Fucking Tolkien metal)



Now however comes the band that they are most known for: Summoning. Blending epic landscapes, bombastic medieval percussion, and distant black metal guitar riffs Summoning are truely in a league of their own. Protector commented that on this album the guitars would adopt a more floating style. They indeed do, playing a more arpeggio-based style than ever before. It must also be noted that the artwork is once again superb, a landscape that lets the listener create the action in his own mind while listening.

Ăsta-i clar albumul meu preferat de la Opeth, urmat de My Arms, Your Hearse, alt concept album superb. Pe Still Life, Opeth încep ușor-ușor să depășească barierele unei trupe metal obișnuite și includ superbe secvențe acustice printre riff-uri excelente de death metal, îmbinându-le armonios. It is hard, but they pulled it off. Nimic nu este forțat, melodiile se leagă între ele, iar Mikael Åkerfeldt, vocalistul trupei, trece de la growling la clean singing într-o clipă, lucru de apreciat. El descrie albumul astfel:

"Still Life was not Satanic but an anti-Christian theme. It sounds pretty naive when I explain it like this. It kind of takes place a long time ago when Christianity had a bigger importance than it has today. The main character is kind of banished from his hometown because he hasn't got the same faith as the rest of the inhabitants there. The album pretty much starts off when he is returning after several years to hook up with his old 'babe'. Obviously a lot of bad things start happening with, as I call it on the album, 'the council.' The big bosses of the town know that he's back. A lot of bad things start happening. They see him as a hypocrite in a way. It's almost like a devil's advocate or whatever it's called."

Ok, he's not good at explaining stuff. His old "babe"? Ugh. Primul track al albumului, The Moor, conturează situația mult mai frumos:

Melodia mea preferată de pe album, o incredibilă combinație de acorduri blues care progresează, transformându-se spre sfârșit într-un riff top-notch.

2. This Will Destroy You - Young Mountain (2006)



Cu riscul de a crea o listă destul de neînchegată din punct de vedere al genurilor muzicale, prefer să fac un top (oarecum random) al albumelor mele favorite, la fel ca și marvas, ola și cine mai spunea același lucru.

Young Mountain este primul album al trupei post-rock This Will Destroy You, înregistrat și lansat chiar de ei în 2005 (mai indie de atât nu se poate). Nu știu câți dintre voi au ascultat post-rock la viața lor, dar cunoscătorii știu că este foarte greu să impresionezi cu genul ăsta muzical. Cum adică? Well, trebuie să reții atenția ascultătorului având în vedere faptul că melodiile nu au versuri, așa că majoritatea trupelor abordează calea celor de la Mogwai, și anume - slow intro, tempo goes up, crescendo peste crescendo și la sfârșit o explozie de sunete.
Aș minți dacă aș spune că This Will Destroy You schimbă complet tehnica abordată. Dar le iese excelent, și au un stil extrem de bine conturat, în ciuda faptului că Young Mountain este primul lor album.

Secțiuni de pian, viori, chitări suprapuse înecate în reverb, armonii, pure noise, toate astea contribuie la un wall of sound imens, care până la sfârșitul albumului se prăbușește fără milă peste tine. Recomand din tot sufletul.

3. Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain (2006)



Deschizi ochii. Lumină insuportabilă. Fulgii de nea îți lovesc cu putere fața deja rece. Cerul gri, iar în jurul tău este numai alb. Pe alocuri parcă se observă niște linii negre, verticale, de diferite grosimi. Cum ai ajuns în pădurea asta, în toiul iernii? Este extrem de frig, așa că te ridici ca să îți încălzești corpul și să eviți eventualele degerături.
Reușești să ascuți o creangă uscată de copac și pornești în căutarea hranei. Urși, lupi, vulpi, în momentul de față te-ai lupta cu orice creatură pentru o bucată de carne. Cauți ore în șir, dar nu găsești nimic. De parcă zăpada a înghițit toate animalele. Te simți vlăguit. În momentul ăsta ai vrea doar să te întinzi în zăpadă și să mori...

Ashes Against the Grain este soundtrack-ul perfect pentru o asemenea aventură inoportună. O combinație briliantă de folk, doom, black și death, plus niște influențe ambientale. Absolut superb.

4. Sigur Rós - Ágætis Byrjun (1999)

Revin pe filiera post rock cu o trupă islandeză extrem de cunoscută, de care probabil au auzit toți de pe aici. Sper. Sigur Ros îmbină muzica ambientală cu acordurile post-rock, totul fiind completat de tonul falsetto al solistului. Care, btw, cântă la chitară cu un arcuș. Pretty fucking awesome.

The real impact of the album comes when it is finished and the listener sits back, amazed, head full of thoughts and reaches for the repeat button. This is an album that is hard not to like, no matter what the listener's musical preferance is. Nearly every song on the album is a highlight.

La 17 ani, Zach Condon și-a băgat picioarele în ea de școală și a plecat în lume (probabil pentru că făcea lumea mișto de numele lui). Când s-a întors, copleșit de abundența culturală existentă prin Europa, s-a apucat să-și exprime stările evocate de locurile vizitate. Cum? Prin muzică, evident. În 2006 a lansat Gulag Orkestar, o încercare cel puțin admirabilă, iar în 2007 și-a perfecționat stilul și soundul și a lansat acest colos.

Condon has an impressive flow, a delicate glide that perfectly compliments the oft-commented-upon exoticism that tends to divide Beirut listeners. On The Flying Cup Club, and maybe on all of Beirut's records, this exoticism takes the form not of alienation but of a search for a familiar place within what seems (or sounds) unfamiliar, difficult, or repulsive. It's the process of searching that untethers the record from any limiting sense of place, be it an Arrondissement in Paris or a village in the Balkans.

Pana azi dimineata eram convins ca o sa aleg Animals, un album extrem de sub-apreciat, plin de un dispret pentru societatea post-industriala, dispret care provine atat din versuri cat si din muzica si care reuseste sa instige in mine mai mult spirit decat toate abominatiile hardcoriste posibile. In plus, este absolut unic din punct de vedere sonor iar locurile prin care ma trasporta, ehe...

Apoi desigur am re-ascultat Wish You Were Here si n-am putut sa nu il aleg. Pink Floyd este o formatie greu de descris celor ne-initiati, asa ca recomand pentru inceput audierea piesei Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part I-V), un elogiu adus fostului membru Floyd - Syd Barrett.

Muzica incepe iar peisajul sonor este dominat de la inceput cu sunetul unor pahare de vin acompaniate de un synth care duce ma duce cu gandul la un fel de explorare spatiala, avand in vedere ca Syd a suferit din multe simptome specifice schizofrenie in urma consumului excesiv de LSD imi place sa imi imaginez aceasta sectiune ca fiind o explorare a mintii lui, in fundal se aud "stele cazatoare". In curand intra o chitara electrica care imita synth-ul de mai devreme in tonalitate dar care aduce cu sine o melancolie profunda.

Partea a II-a incepe cu o alta intrare de chitara recitand tema din patru note care se va repeta de-a lungul melodiei, urmeaza tobele, basul si synth-ul intra in forta pentru a stabili directia in care va urma muzica. Urmeaza dupa aceea solo-uri alternante intre chitara lui Gilmour si synth-ul calm a lui Wright.

Partea IV incepe la 8:42, moment in care se aud primele versuri

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun - Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky - Shine on you crazy diamond.

Partea V este dominata de un solo de saxofon cantat de Dick Parry. Spre sfarsit muzica se transforma incet, lasand in urma terenul fracturat al mintii lui Syd in timp ce intram usor in urmatoarea melodie - Welcome to the Machine; o critica a industriei muzicale in care se afla se inneca formatia in momentul respectiv si una din motivele care a dus la caderea lui Syd in '67.

Deja nu mai e vorba de o melodie propriu zisa ci mai degraba un experiment sonic in sterilitate; synth-uri agresive imita sunetul unor masinarii in mijlocul activitatii lor, o chitara acustica la fel de agresiva care picteaza imagini ale unor imense catedrale de otel ridicandu-se sus, sus, cat mai sus si care inainteaza in toate directiile. Cinismul este exprimat si in versurile scrise de Waters

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
What did you dream? It's alright we told you what to dream.
You dreamed of a big star, he played a mean guitar,
He always ate in the Steak Bar. He loved to drive in his Jaguar.
So welcome to the Machine.

Pe acelasi ton, de data asta mai mult satiric decat frustrat continua Have A Cigar, singura piesa "rock" de pe album. Din nou, nu ma pot abtine din a posta alte versuri scrise de Waters:

Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar.
You're gonna go far, fly high, you're never gonna die,
You're gonna make it if you try; they're gonna love you.
Well I've always had a deep respect, and I mean that most sincere.
The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think.
Oh by the way, which one's Pink?

Urmeaza balada Wish You Were Here - arhi-cunoscuta deja, nu cred ca are rost sa o descriu - si o intoarcere la Syd cu Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part VI-IX) cu cateva jam-uri lungi si psyhedelice.

Trivia:

On June 5, 1975, an incredibly bizarre moment occurred at Abbey Road Studios, where Pink Floyd was completing their album. An overweight man had entered their studio; his head was shaved, as were his eyebrows. Neither Richard Wright nor Roger Waters had initially recognized him. They were confused, as this man did erratic things, such as brushing his teeth by jumping up and down.

When they did finally realize that it was Syd Barrett, founding member of Pink Floyd, they were horrified and shocked beyond belief. They all knew that Syd had gone off the deep end mentally, but they had not seen him in years. Nick Mason recalled his conversation with him as not sensible. He tried to have a conversation with those in the studio, but it appeared that he did not know what he was talking about. Some cried right there in front of him.

Surprisingly, Syd offered to help the band on their work, but after quietly stating that the album sounded "old," he decided not to help, and left without saying goodbye. That was that. No member of Pink Floyd would ever see him again until his death.

Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison sau If a fifth season were needed e un album care abunda in sonoritati pastorale: chitari, flaute si clarinete sunt completate sublim de un mellotron si un pian electric - singurele instrumente electronice prezente.

Vert (Green) da startul ciclului sezonier cu o melodie de flaut superba, urmeaza apoi o usoara trezire din amorteala in timp ce din ce in ce mai multe instrumente si vocile isi fac aparitia. Textura sonora este foarte densa, cand impresia ca toate instrumentele danseaza una in jurul celeilalte; ritmul fiind unul extrem de vioi. Spre sfarsit totul incetineste usor si isi fac aparitia din nou flautele de la inceput.

Dixie continua oarecum in acelasi ton, de data aceasta sunetul este mai curat, mai putin complex texturat insa ramane la fel de vioi, chitarile acustice si pianul canta si mai alert ca in Vert iar melodia se transforma intr-un piesa Jazz/Ragtime odata cu aparitia clarinetului. Entuziasm distilat in 3 minute si 26 de secunde.

Vara desigur trece prea rapid iar toamna isi face aparitia in piesa Depuis l'automne. Melodia incepe extrem de simplu, cu doua chitari si un vocal usor melancolic. Nu trece mult timp desigur pana sa isi faca aparitia mellotronul si pianul electric, vocea isi schimba si ea caracterul si incepe sa cante la unisor cu respectivul mellotron. Texturile vor alterna intre simplitatea cu care a inceput melodia si densitatea sonora a instrumentelor electrice.

Apoi incepe o pauza instrumentala lunga dominata de sunetul aerat al mellotronului, chitarile si flautul completeaza atmosfera cu un duet mirific. Textura este extrem de densa datorita efectelor de ecou si a cantatul mellotronului care aproape convinge ascultatorul ca un ansamblu de viori este prezent.

Vocile isi vor face din nou aparitia imitand mellotronul insa vor fi prompt furate de catre chitari iar o transformare sublima de la melancolie la euforie are loc in ultima pare a melodiei. E imposibil sa nu ascult sfarsitul fara un mic zambet pe buze batand involuntar din picior. Asta e muzica care se poate lua fara nici o jena la tranta cu Genesis, King Crimson sau Van Der Graaf.

Iarna soseste odata cu En pleine face, de data aceasta pasajele lungi progresive sunt inlocuite de simplitate pura, o melodie care incepe contemplativ in timp ce incet incet isi fac aparitia mai multe instrumente, acordenul de la final fiind o aditie perfecta.

Si la sfarsit, capodopera albumului, al 5-lea sezon - Histoire sans paroles. E aproape imposibil de descris ce face aceasta melodie atata de buna, instrumentele sunt aceleasi, insa locurile in care te transporta sunt diferite de orice ce am mai auzit pana in momentul de fata.

Ca in orice melodie prog care se respecta, fiecare sectiune din melodie este plina de noi sonoritati si stari de spirit. Prima sectiune este dominata de un flaut usor melancolic dar mai mult inaltator, incercand parca sa picteze un taram indepartat.

Calatoria continua cu o sectiune mai tulburata in care liniile de pian, chiatara, mellotron si flaut se descompun incet incet lasand in urma lor o omogenitate ciudata. Vocalizarile insa isi fac din nou aparitia devenind pentru o perioada buna principalul "instrument" al piesei ce se trezeste din nou la viata.

Schimbarile vor continua in timp ce noi combinatii de instrumente isi fac aparitia si altele pleaca, iar nici o sectiune din melodie nu seamna cu ce a fost inaintea ei, prog folk at its finest.

Finalul vine pe neasteptate odata cu repetarea liniei melodice a flautului din prima sectiune, de data aceasta insa orice urma de tristete e dusa din intonatia instrumentului, ramanand doar un sunet care nu poate fi descris decat ca fiind plin de viata.

Indreptandu-ne usor catre teritorii tot mai salbatice a junglei progressive gasim Van der Graaf Generator, o formatie care pana recent am trecut-o cu vederea catalogand-o ca fiind prea prog, am facut desigur greseala de a incepe cu albumul lor cel mai apreciat Pawn Hearts, o catedrala grandioasa cladita pe cei mai teimenici stalpi ai progului - schimbari dese de ritm si de tonalitate, sectiuni lungi atonale/aritmice, etc. pe scurt era prea greu de digerat si nici pana in ziua de azi nu am reusit sa penetrez tainele acelui album, sau cel putin nu am reusit sa il ascult in totalitate fara sa ma plictisesc intr-un punct sau altul. La mult timp insa dupa aceea prima tentativa esuata am audiat Still Life si am fost vrajit.

Albumul incepe cu Pilgrims care da tonul sonor pentru restul albumului: Peter Hammill isi canta versurile cu mult patos, alternand cu usurinta intre soapte, tipete si recitatie incercand in acelasi timp sa minimizeze impactul chitarii lui asupra texturii muzicale; aici chitara avand un simplu rol de acompaniament. Mult mai importante pentru sonoritatea specifica formatiei sunt orga si pianul electric al lui Hugh Banton impreuna cu saxofonul lui David Jackson.

Sometimes you feel so far away, distanced from all the action of the play,
Unable to grasp significance, marking the plot with diffident dismay,
Stranded at centre stage.

Still Life urmeaza apoi pe un ton mult mai intunecat, prima parte a melodiei fiind dominata de orga si de vocea lui Peter care lamenteaza soarta unor nemuritori ramasi fara dorinta de a trai. Intra apoi in forta tobele impreuna cu saxofonul iar melodia intra intr-un crescendo furios inainte de a se prabusi din nou in simplitatatea cu care a inceput. Ultimele cuvinte care se aud sunt

But now the nuptial bed is made, the dowry has been paid:
The toothless, haggard features of eternity now welcome me between the sheets
To couple with her withered body - my wife.
Hers forever,

In still life.

Pentru La Rossa nu sunt prea multe de spus, o compozitie solida in care melodia evolueaza usor de la sentimente de frustrare catre eliberare si in final extaz pe masura ce povestea se desfasoara

La Rossa, you know me, you read me as though I am glass;
Though I know it there's no no way in which I can pass
Though it means that you'll finish my story
At last I'd trade all the clever talk, the joking, the smoking and the quips,
All the midnight conversations, all the friendship, all the words and all the trips

My Room (Waiting for Wonderland) schimba tonul, lasand la o parte complexitatea prezenta pana acum in favoarea unei crepuscul perpetuu foarte relaxant. Vocea lui Peter isi pierde din caracterul haotic si capata o tenta de lullaby. Solo-ul de saxofon de pe la sfarsitul melodiei este si el foarte fain.

Helpless sea-monster stranded on the shore, marooned in an ecstasy of waiting,
I yearn, although knowing that I shall dive no more in the tide already racing.

Ultima piesa - Childlike Faith in Childhood's End - este indiscutabil cea mai puternica de pe album. Aici ma cam impotmolesc fiindca este foarte greu sa explic exact felul in care suna formatia in aceste momente extrem de inspirate; daca la Pink Floyd si la Harmonium imi era usor sa arunc descrieri precum masinarii sterile sau pajisti pitoresti aici limbajul uzual lasa mult mai mult de dorit - lucru valabil de altfel pentru majoritatea albumului.

O sa las doar cu niste versuri si cu rugamintea sa o ascultati pana la capat, are intr-adevar cateva sectiuni avant-guard puternic inspirate de King Crimson dar ele trec repede iar linia melodica este restabilita cu usurinta si intodeauna intarita intr-un fel sau altul astfel incat spre final imi este imposibil sa nu am pielea de gaina.

Laughing, hoping, praying, joking, Son of Man!
with lowered eyes but lifting hearts, we're grains of sand
and though, in time, the sea may claim us for its own
we are the rocks which root the future, on us it grows.

Older, wiser, sadder, blinder, watch us run;

Inainte sa plece Peter Gabriel, inainte sa plece Steven Hackett, inainte de I Can't Dance, Land of Confusion, inainte de anii '80 si inainte ca Phil Collins sa devina vocalistul formatiei, Genesis erau o formatie prog-rock pur sange.

Mi-a fost foarte greu sa aleg un album din perioada 70-75 deoarece toate sunt diferite si fiecare din ele merita sa fie ascultat. Inca nu stiu daca ar fi trebuit sa aleg Foxtrot sau The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway; The Lamb are mai multe piese bune decat Selling England iar Foxtrot are Watcher of the Skies si Supper's Ready, indiscutabil cea mai buna compozitie a formatiei, un adevarat tur de forta de peste 23 de minute - And the seven trumpets blowing sweet rock and roll, ca tot s-a adus vorba de 666 de la Aphrodite's Child.

Din pacate ambele au multe piese de umplutura, spre desebire de Selling England care cu exceptia piesei More Fool Me nu da dovada de slabiciune.

Mai greu decat sa imi aleg un album din aceea perioada este sa recomand o piesa de pe album pentru auditie, fiecare are rostul sau in arhitectura albumului si fiecare are momentele lui sublime.

Dancing With The Moonlit Knight contine cele mai bune versuri si performanta vocala de pe album.

"Can you tell me where my country lies?" said the unifaun to his true love's eyes
"It lies with me!" cried the Queen of Maybe, for her merchandise, he traded in his prize

I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe) este de departe cea mai pop melodie cu versuri catchy, o forma traditionala vers-refren-vers si fara complexitatile specifice prog-rock-ului dar care ramane insa foarte buna.

Firth Of Fifth este o alta piesa care iese in evidenta cu intro-ul de pian alternand intre masuri de 13/16, 15/16 si 2/4 si cu unul din cele mai bune solo-uri de chitara din repertoriu care domina a doua jumatate a melodiei.

The Battle of Epping Forest este piesa ciudata de pe album, plina pana la refuz cu jocuri de cuvinte, rime la tot pasul si o poveste care frizeaza absurdul. Muzica este la fel jucausa cu sectiuni care se schimba intr-un ritm foarte alert.

Aisle Of Plenty este o repriza a primei melodii si un final perfect pentru album.

Ca o paranteza, albumul este dominat de jocuri de cuvinte foarte specifice perioadei respective a Angliei, de exemplu

Dancing out with the moonlit knight, Knights of the Green Shield stamp and shout.

"Green shield stamps" were the 70s equivalent to reward points at petrol stations or whatever - this points to commercialism. Green food stamps and price folder (Aisle of Plenty ) remind how low the Once Mighty Empire has fallen as the first oil crisis did even more damage to England Sold By The Pound to Arab Sheiks playing fortune with the Old Lady England that lays out the credit cards and plays fortune.

Ador albumul asta, spre deosebire de directia in care s-a indreptat Miles Davis ulterior impreuna cu Coltrane si parca jumatate din lumea jazz-ului - improvizatii libere absurd de lungi, modulatii nenumarate si alte astfel excentritati care tindeau din ce in ce mai mult catre avant-guard Kind of Blue pastreaza totul la un nivel absurd de simplu, accentul fiind pus strict pe explorarea subtila a diverselor palete tonale prezente, iar felul in care Miles Davis a ales sa abordeze inregistrarea albumului reflecta acest lucru:

he called for almost no rehearsal and the musicians had little idea what they were to record. As described in the original liner notes by pianist Bill Evans, Davis had only given the band sketches of scales and melody lines on which to improvise. Once the musicians were assembled, Davis gave brief instructions for each piece and then set to taping the sextet in studio

The entire album was composed as a series of modal sketches, in which each performer was given a set of scales that defined the parameters of their improvisation and style

In a 1958 interview with Nat Hentoff of The Jazz Review, Davis elaborated on this form of composition in contrast to the simple chord progression predominant in bebop, stating "No chords ... gives you a lot more freedom and space to hear things. When you go this way, you can go on forever. You don't have to worry about changes and you can do more with the melody line. It becomes a challenge to see how melodically innovative you can be.

Daca nu era deja evident, DCD sunt o formatie extrem de eclectica, preluand influente antice extrem de variate - cantece traditionale persane, melodii traditionale irlandeze, cantece gregoriane, lista continua - si distilandu-le intr-un sunet unic, extrem de gothic.

Motivul pentru care am ales Towards The Within insa este tocmai fiindca aici se departeaza cel mai mult de la acel sunet intunecat, gothic catre o zona total diferita, catre un taram sonic care parca dateaza din preistorie si care este detasat de ultimele caracteristici ramase ale muzicii moderne.

Sunetul alterneaza intre melodii tribale precum Rakim, Yulunga, Cantara si Oman dominate de jocul dintre cei sase percutionisti (practic fiecare membru al formatiei foloseste la un moment un instrument de percutie) si vocalizarile salbatice ale lui Perry si Lisa cu momente de meditatie profunda unde instrumentatia este redusa lasand vocea Lisei sa te lase cu gura cascata, vezi Persian Love Song, The Wind That Shakes The Barley, Song Of The Sibyl, Tristan sau Sanvean.

Catre mijlocul setlistului insa exista o serie de patru melodii bazate pe un folk mai traditional vestic/european; si aici cred ca albumul are cel mai mult de suferit. Nu ca as putea sa ma plang prea mult desigur, American Dreaming fiind una din preferatele mele de pe album, insa contrastul tematic care rezulta este cel putin deranjant.

Din fericire deviatia nu dureaza prea mult, este extrem de placuta in felul ei, si in curand ne intoarcem la muzica noastra stramoseasca cantata de Lisa cu vocea ei de neegalat.

Calitate sonora superba, un setlist unic (doar patru din melodiile prezente aici isi mai fac aparitia pe albumele lor de studio) si o interpretare incredibila din partea tuturor celor implicati.

The Wind That Shakes the Barley is a late 18th-century traditional Irish ballad that Lisa Gerrard wanted to do her own version of, " it was meant to be a rallying song, but it has such an intense sadness that it becomes an anti-war song.

The Song of the Sibyl is a liturgical drama and a Gregorian chant, the lyrics of which compose a prophecy describing the Apocalypse, which has been performed at some churches of Majorca (Balearic Islands, Spain) and Alghero (Sardinia, Italy) in Catalan language on Christmas Eve nearly uninterrruptedly since medieval times

5. Massive Illusion (13:37)

This is atmospheric music that requires the candlelight, turn off the lights treatment, unplug the TV-DVD-PC-Cell and just let the sounds overcome your defenses. The funeral lilt of the first piece really lays down the mood, an opiate-laden hallucigenic (not necessarily psychedelic) canvas where the vocals dominate center stage and the assorted instruments act as a backdrop.

Citatul respectiv descrie perfect albumul, o experienta care se desfasoara lent pe parcursul celor 53 de minute de muzica. Melodiile care curg una dupa cealalta dau impresia ca intreg albumul este o singura compozitie unitara impartita foarte vag in sectiuni ale caror linii de demarcatie sunt abia prezente.

Stilistic vorbind muzica pulseaza hipnotic trecand prin numeroase cicluri de intensitate crescuta alternate cu momente de respir. Un tipar care aduce aminte de numeroase albume post-rock dar fara senzatia de repetitie care are tendinta de a le infesta.

Muzica evolueaza si se transforma incet in moduri imperceptibile plutind in permanenta in jurul starilor de spirit invocate de catre noapte, indiferent de instrumentatia folosita sau de intensitatea cu care se canta. Melodiile sunt de o simplitate deceptiva; nu exista laitmotive, refrene sau solo-uri. Abia poti spune ca exita linii melodice; atat de vagi conturate sunt ele astfel incat daca incerci sa iti aduci aminte fragmente din album e aproape imposibil sa recreezi ce canta oricare dintre instrumente.

Sa nu intelegeti insa ca nu exista dezvoltare sau diversitate tematica, doar ca acestea sunt in permanenta secundare, plutind undeva in fundal ca printr-un vis, sacrificate in slujba ambientei create.

Una din cele mai puternice momente de pe album izvoreste defapt ca urmare a acestor subtilitati; un cantec de vioara care apare pentru un scurt timp in Dream of Stone reapare la sfarsitul albumului dezvoltandu-se pe deplin in acompaniamentul unui pian. Cuvintele nu pot descrie forta cu care vine aceasta sectiune de muzica, este asemanatoare cu senzatia creata dupa cinci sezoane de Six Feet Under unde totul pare sa se termine frumos si pasnic numai ca sa te loveasca chiar la final montajul acela de 5 minute. Perfect Nachtmusik.

Deobicei nu postez si lista muzicienilor care contribuie pe un album dar simteam nevoia sa atrag atentia asupra faptului ca in ciuda instrumentatiei diverse cel mai important sunet prezent aici este linistea.

Texturile se dezvolta intr-un ritm glacial iar atunci cand ai impresia ca muzica se duce undeva totul se opreste si se intoarce la minimalismul de unde a plecat. Criticii au numit acest album unul din cele mai importante influente in crearea post-rock-ului.

In a review of Bark Psychosis' album Hex, where the term "post-rock" was coined, Simon Reynolds opined that Hex aspires to the "baroque grandeur" of Spirit of Eden. Andy Whitman of Paste magazine argues that Spirit of Eden represents the beginning of post-rock: "The telltale marks of the genre—textured guitars, glacial tempos, an emphasis on dynamics, electronica, ambience and minimalism—were all in place, and paved the way for bands like Sigur Rós, Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Low and latter-period Radiohead.

There is a stark, haunting aura surrounding much of the work, but it transcends the merely 'dark' or 'moody' to effectively portray moments of extreme emotional import; an attitude of spiritual revelation, profound personal expression, and raw existential distress is the heaviness that the fragile structure of these songs bear. This album belongs to no specific genre, simultaneously creating and perfecting its own sonic signature; the album equally achieves distinction in prog-rock as it does in modern jazz, or avant-garde classical, or post-punk experimentation, or even new-age soundscapes.

In September 1967, the Moody Blues were asked by their label to record an adaptation of Dvorak's Ninth Symphony -- as a stereo-demonstration LP. The struggling Moodies, a former white-R&B band that had gone without a hit since 1965, instead created their own orchestral song cycle about a typical working day. Days of Future Passed is closer to high-art pomp than psychedelia. But there is a sharp pop discretion to the writing and a trippy romanticism in the mirroring effect of the strings and Mike Pinder's Mellotron.

Ar mai fi de adaugat faptul ca avem de-a face cu un album care alaturi de Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band si The Piper at the Gates of Dawn a ajutat la punerea bazelor rock-ului progressive asa cum il stim astazi.

Orchestra este folosita mai mult pentru efect deci sa nu va asteptati la complexitatile de genul Concerto for Group and Orchestra a lui Deep Purple, intreg albumul aducand mai degraba a un soundtrack menit sa acompanieze un scurt metraj a-la Fantasia 2000 - Rhapsody in Blue.

Muzica este predominant usoara in prima parte a albumului, cu cateva momente foarte quirky in sectiunile dedicate diminetii/pranzului; spre final insa, compozitia devine din ce in ce mai elaborata, psihedelica si chiar hipnotica pe alocuri.

Apogeul perioadei etno-folk al formatiei, Cantafabule se prezinta sub forma unei inedite combinatii de hard prog cu folk arhaic. Este greu de descris sunetul albumului deoarece acesta sufera schimbari radicale de la o melodie la alta, totusi, elementele care apar in mod constant pe album sunt in mod indiscutabil, sintetizatoarele psihedelice ale lui Günther Reininger si jocul complex de bass al lui Iosif Kappl.

Sintetizatorul lui Günther domina in totalitate intreaga productie muzicala. Intalnim efecte care aduc a pescarusii din Echoes, drone care pulseaza in fundal, sunete de sirena (creatura mitica, dar si alarma antiaeriana), lasere, tipatul creaturilor mitice infrante in razboiul fiarelor si o tona metrica de alte experimente de acest gen. Pe langa toate acestea, se adauga si sectiunile in care synth-ul e folosit in scopuri pur muzicale, da, Günther este omniprezent pe acest album.

La fel de prezent este si basul lui Kappl care pare sa ignore total ce se intampla cu linia melodica principala, pastrand totusi o coerenta tonala incredibila. Nici nu e de mirare, faptul ca in mai multe momente, chitarile pur si simplu renunta, avand doar rolul de a acompania basul care devine instrumentul principal.

Avem deci un album care abunda in texturi polifonice complexe, sintetizatoare dementiale, instrumente arhaice si chitari puternic distorsionate. Cat despre tematica lui cred ca mai bine las asta pe mana celor doi textieri:

Ne-am gândit pentru început la niște formule magice de incantare a spiritelor. Un fel de invocație. Sunt chemate duhurile acestor animale simbolice și ele încep să apară, la început cele mai mici și mai nevinovate, cum ar fi Scarabeul și Inorogul, pe urmă restul, Delfinul și cele periculoase. La o vreme, toate acestea intră înr-un fel de conflict, Zoomahia, și totul se termină sugerând începutul unui nou ciclu al existenței, la un nivel superior, printr-un imn dedicat Phoenixului, simbolul renașterii și al existenței veșnice. —Andrei Ujică

Ceea ce era foarte important pentru noi, printre altele, era faptul că reușeam să introducem, într-un fel pe sub ușă, ca mesaj subliminal, în mentalitatea publicului tânăr, un fel de animale complet uitate, un insolit, dar nu arbitrar, ci de factură canonică, să reactualizăm, într-o mentalitate mai mult sau mai puțin superficială, niște sensuri arhaice, preexistente. Formația a răspuns în același sens, arhaizându-și muzica, realizând o extraordinară combinație de rock-ul contemporan cu moduri mai mult sau mai puțin arhaice. Aceste animale fantastice erau de pretutindeni, există un cosmopolitism intrinsec, spațial și temporal, un fel de sincretism, chiar la modul alexandrin. E o operație ușor alchimică. Există niște simboluri christice la [pasărea] Phoenix, ceea ce a produs un impact mai mare decât ceea ce se luase în calculul inițial, impactul muzicii respective față de «tânăra gardă».—Șerban Foarță

Un omagiu adus cantaretei Maria Tanase si in acelasi timp o reinterpretare a pieselor cantate de ea, albumul este o combinatie interesanta intre stilul minimalist al lui Balanescu, puternic influentat de muzica electronica a anilor '70 (grupul a scos un album de cover-uri Kraftwerk in 1992) cu cantecele inspirate din folclor ale Marieia Tanase.

Rezultatul este un album care evolueaza incet, de cele mai multe ori compozitiile incep intr-un mod simplist, pe parcursul carora viorile adauga treptat straturi melodice. Toate acestea peste o fundatie de ritmuri si de laitmotive care se repeta si se transforma in mod subtil pe masura ce compozitiile se desfasoara si cresc in complexitate.

Ocazional inregistrarile originale ale melodiilor apar ca din ceata ca sa cante acompaniate de viorile lui Balanescu, aceste momente sunt indiscutabil cele mai puternice de pe album. Prezenta Mariei Tanase este indepartata dar in acelasi timp inconjoara si acaprezeaza restul instrumentatiei, Balanescu reusind sa se muleze perfect cu stilul ei de a canta, creand o aura de reverenta in jurul sunetului eteric al vocii ele prelucrate prin filtrele de ecou. Cele mai graitoare exemple in acest sens sunt Life and Death, Mountain Call si Turning Wheels; adica Lume, lume!, Tulnicul si Trenule, masina mica. In rest muzica este conpletativa cu ocazionale explozii de energie, dar mai intodeauna melancolica.

Singurele momente slabe de pe album sunt acelea in care se aventureaza putin in teritorii avantgardiste; cum ar fi in Turning Wheels cand avem o juxtapunere bizara intre ritmuri puternic sincopate si linii melodice angulare in prima parte a melodiei cu dansul fericit din a 2-a parte care incepe odata cu intrarea Mariei.

Din fericire insa aceste momente sunt rare iar de cele mai multe ori compozitiile lui Balanescu se potrivesc si elaboreaza perfect stilul folcloric al Mariei Tanase, enjoy.

Ce-i drept, vocea lui John Darnielle (solistul si autorul versurilor) e ingrozitor de nazala, devenind pe alocuri chiar enervanta, dar impreuna cu stilul energic al indie folk-ului pe care acestia il practica, reuseste nu doar sa formeze un compus unitar cu muzica, dar si exprima o paleta bogata in trairi, provocand ascultatorul sa ia parte si chiar sa se implice emotional in intreaga poveste.

The Sunset Tree este un album narativ. O copilarie contaminata de violenta domestica, abuzuri fizice, dar mai ales emotionale, neputinta, furie, frica, refugiul in muzica, droguri si intr-o relatie sortita esecului…toate acestea sunt portretizate prin versuri bine alese, bogate in intelesuri, completate de trimiteri mitologice si imagini poetice, vivide. Bazat pe experientele lui din copilarie si dedicat tatalui sau vitreg (by whom the album was "made possible"), albumul constituie o exorcizare a demonilor din trecutul solistului, o experienta cathartica atat pt el cat si pt ascultator.

Printre cele mai intense piese, se numara Dilaudid, unde desi trairile nu sunt numite in mod direct, rush-ul dat de ele este foarte puternic, fiind amplificate de violencelul violent care pare sa se dezmembreze.

Albumul este in mod indiscutabil o calatorie, ordinea in care se gasesc piesele avand o importanta majora. Dupa tonul inversunat din Dilaudid, atmosfera sufera o aparenta detensionare in Dance Music unde sound-ul jucaus si usurel este contrabalansat de imaginile pline de angoasa.

Urmeaza Dinu Lipatti’s Bones care pare sa te duca in cu totul alta lume.. o clipa suspendata traita alaturi de prietena lui, o insula de pace unde tot raul din afara pare ca se dizolva; muzica devine linistitoare, vocea calda, aproape soptita.

Calmul dinaintea furtunii..
Tonul se revigoreaza, devenind din ce in ce mai strident pe parcursul pieselor. Desi Magpie, are un sound mai “combativ” ca nivel al intensitatii trairilor primeaza Lion’s Teeth (“a revenge fantasy”) unde neputinta si furia traite de el sunt exprimate in mod direct.

Eliberarea vine odata cu Pale Green Things sub forma unei resemnari triste, dar purificatoare.

Lista e imensa dupa cum se poate observa, muzica insa niciodata nu suna ingramadita sau haotica. Spre deosebire de un anumit segment al muzicii prog al anilor '70 din care Phideaux isi trage inspiratia, accentul se pune in mod repetat pe linii melodice clare si recognoscibile.

A nu se intelege ca muzica este simplista, nici pe departe; albumul este plin pana la refuz cu texturi polifonice extrem de dense, instrumente vin si pleaca iar solo-uri de vioara, flaut, chitara sau synth apar in mod repetat, doar ca totul este echilibrat in asa maniera incat ascultatorul poate identifica extrem de usor ce instrument canta ce. In consecinta muzica nu oboseste niciodata iar melodiile sunt lasate sa respire chiar si in cele mai ingramadite momente. Bariera de intrare atat des intalnita la formatiile care cad mai greu pe partea progressive *cough* Yes *cough* este practic inexistenta.

Din punct de vedere muzical albumul este un omagiu adus anilor '70, cel mai evident exemplu in acest sens fiind piesa Thank You For The Evil ale carui sintetizatoare si chitari acustice sunt o referinta clara catre Welcome to the Machine. Printre inspiratiile care se simt cel mai puternic se pot enumera Pink Floyd, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Van der Graaf Generator, Camel si Yes astfel incat daca nu era productia audio impecabila (si este impecabila, pe niste casti cu volumulul dat la maxim sunetul este divin) as fi zis ca albumul provine din alta era.

O grija mare a fost data si catre structura albumului; linii melodice trecatoare isi fac aparitia mai tarziu si in unele cazuri sunt extinse si dezvoltate astfel incat din ele se nasc piese intregi. La fel este cazul si unor versuri care isi fac aparitia pe parcursul a mai multor melodii si care dau impresia unui refren care isi face simtita prezenta cu mult dupa ce melodia din care facea prima data parte s-a terminat. Toate acestea au rolul de a produce o continuitate si de a unifica diversitatea prezenta pe album.

Imi dau seama pe final ca am fost cam tehnic in descrierea mea (lucru pe care incerc sa-l evit pe cat posibil) si n-am subliniat suficient cat de liric este albumul; fiecare melodie, fiecare nota este cantata in modul cel mai sublim posibil iar prestatiile vocilor feminine sunt printre cele mai bune care mi-au atins urechea.

Toate astea combinate cu o exuberanta molipsitoare si cateva sectiuni extrem de catchy il fac albumul meu preferat al mileniului, iar daca nu eram atat de sigur ca nimeni nu o sa-l aleaga l-as fi pus pe locul 2.

Ca tot am vorbit despre prestatiile feminine va las cu melodia Crumble urmata de finalul climatic compus din melodiile Formaldehyde si Microdeath Softstar

Sunt putin reticent cand vine vorba de a posta alegeri nostalgice, motivul este simplu; sunt albume si formatii pe care le-am ascultat obsesiv pe vremea cand aveam niste gusturi muzicale slab dezvoltate si in permanenta miscare. In consecinta am invatat sa-mi placa o groaza de muzica care in mod normal as considera-o extrem de proasta. Am destule albume care apartin anumitor genuri muzicale care in mod normal imi displac profund (nu-metal, punk, britpop, "teen metal", etc.) dar pe care le ascult cu o oarecare placere chiar si acum dupa multi ani. Pe vremea cand inca eram in generala/liceu si nu aveam internet, tot ce detineam era primit in forma de CD-uri de la diversi colegi, iar tot ce primeam era ascultat de nenumarate ori.

Unul din aceste albume este Judgement de la Anathema si nu cred ca exagerez cand zic ca l-am ascultat de cateva ori pe saptamana pe parcursul unei perioade de aproximativ doi ani. Consider insa ca albumul este suficient de puternic incat sa stea pe propriile picioare, fara sprijinul nostalgiei. Chiar daca tehnic apartine genului Gothic Metal si in ciuda faptului ca tematica aleasa este abordata intr-un stil usor adolescentin, e in regula, il iert.

Nu prea pot sa spun ca exista o diversitate muzicala aici, fiecare melodie insa reuseste sa ma traga usor catre acel loc al pesimismului melancolic, de unde nu pot evada nici macar pentru o clipa atata timp cat muzica inca rasuna. Iar in ciuda diferentelor de timbru sau tempo dintre melodii, toate au in comun o anume calitate care iti permite sa te cufunzi in ele cu cea mai mare usurinta posibila.

Si desigur, spre deosebire de alte productii Gothic, albumul nu plictiseste nici macar o clipa iar sentimentele transmise sunt sincere, fara incercari de apela la patetisme ieftine, decat atunci cand ele sunt nascute din naivitate. Ma cam zbat cu fraza asta dar ce vreau sa zic este ca in cautarile mele nu am gasit alt album care sa reuseasca sa trasmita starile pe care le trasmite acesta fara sa sune fals, ca sa nu mai zic extrem de prost din punct de vedere muzical.

1. Pink Floyd - The Wall (1979)

Pentru mine The Wall a fost un fel de initiere in muzica celor de la Pink Floyd, si probabil bine am facut ca am inceput cu albumul acesta pentru ca mi se pare oarecum cel mai usor de inteles. Albumul in sine (double disc) se prezinta ca o poveste dupa cum a fost si prezentat in filmul cu acelasi nume si chiar recomand vizionarea acestuia pentru ca il vad ca pe o varianta enhanced.

As with most art, Pink Floyd's concept album is a combination of imagination and the author's own life. The album germinated during the band's 1977 "Animals" tour when frontman Roger Waters, growing disillusioned with stardom and the godlike status that fans grant to rock stars like himself, spit in the face of an overzealous concert-goer. Horrified by his disenchantment, Waters began drawing on these feelings of adult alienation as well as those springing from the loss of his own father during World War II to flesh out the fictional character of Pink. The wild stories surrounding Pink Floyd's original frontman, Syd Barrett - including his drugged-out escapades and subsequent withdrawal from the world - provided Waters with further inspiration for the moody rock-star. The contributions of bandmates David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright provided the final brush strokes for a contemporary anti-hero - a modern, existential everyman struggling to find (or arguably lose) self and meaning in a century fragmented by war.

2. Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet (2007)

Acest album de la Porcupine Tree imi place in special datorita soundului mai relaxat (more or less) si pentru faptul ca abordeaza si o tema mai diferita si anume rutina de zi cu zi privita prin ochii unui adolescent. In tema generala se mai remarca plictisul si monotonia.

Albumul incepe putin mai agresiv cu piesa Fear of a blank planet dupa care My ashes vine cu un sound mai linistit si melancolic.
Urmeaza piesa de rezistenta a albumului in opinia mea, anesthesize combina tot ce exprima celelalte piese de pe album intr-o singura melodie ce incepe destul de in forta si se termina linistit aproape blues.

The concept of the album was heavily influenced by Bret Easton Ellis' novel Lunar Park. The novel is told from the perspective of a father, who bears the name of the novel's author himself, whereas the album is mostly from his son's perspective, an eleven-year-old kid named Robby. Many of the lyrics for Fear of a Blank Planet are lifted directly from the novel, particularly "My Ashes", which is a homage to the last chapter, in which the ashes of Bret's father are scattered and cover the memories of his life.

The lyrics deal with two typical neurobehavioural developmental disorders affecting teenagers in the 21st century: bipolar disorder and attention deficit disorder, and also with other common behaviour tendencies on youth like escapism through prescription drugs, social alienation caused by technology, and a feeling of vacuity-a product of information overload by the mass media. In an interview with Revolver magazine, Wilson described the main character of the story as "...this kind of terminally bored kid, anywhere between 10 and 15 years old, who spends all his daylight hours in his bedroom with the curtains closed, playing on his PlayStation, listening to his iPod, texting his friends on his cell phone, looking at hardcore pornography on the Internet, downloading music, films, news, violence..."

3. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication (1999)

Despre RHCP consider ca nu e mare branza de spus. Am ales ales albumul Californication pentru ca mi se pare cel mai reprezentativ dar nu neaparat cel mai bun. In opinia mea ii defineste cel mai bine.
