Why Microsoft is calling Windows 10 'the last version of Windows'
Right now we’re releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we’re all still working on Windows 10." That was the message from Microsoft employee Jerry Nixon, a developer evangelist speaking at the company's Ignite conference this week.

When SSD Performance Goes Awry - An unfortunate tale about Samsung's SSD 840 read performance degradation

Temperature Driving SSD Performance?
My benchmark results saw wild fluctuations and I could not understand why. As it turns out the drive is also sensitive to heat, and not in the way you might expect: the drive actually works better the hotter it is!

SanDisk's New SSDs as cheap as HDDs
The SanDisk Z400s it the new “cost-effective” SSD announced by the company. The device is supposed to be 20 times faster than HDDs and consume 20 times less power while offering five times better reliability than regular HDDs.
The SanDisk Z400s comes in multiple formats, including mSATA, 2.5-inch SATA and M.2 (2242 and 2280), and in various capacities, including 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. As Myce notes, the Z400s will offer sequential read and write speeds of 549MB/s and 330MB/, while random read and write speeds are at 33K and 62K IOPS, respectively.
It’s not clear when the Z400s will be commercially available, but SanDisk says that it’s already sampling customers immediately. Pricing details have not been revealed either, and these SSDs might initially be available to OEMs initially, but that’s still good news, as laptops and other devices will in the near future ship with such flash storage on board rather than conventional HDDs.

White House sides with Oracle, tells Supreme Court APIs are copyrightable

The dispute centers on Google copying names, declarations, and header lines of the Java APIs in Android. Oracle filed suit, and in 2012, a San Francisco federal judge sided with Google. The judge ruled that the code in question could not be copyrighted. Oracle prevailed on appeal, however. A federal appeals court ruled that the "declaring code and the structure, sequence, and organization of the API packages are entitled to copyright protection."
Google maintained that the code at issue is not entitled to copyright protection because it constitutes a "method of operation" or "system" that allows programs to communicate with one another.
"That argument is incorrect," the administration told the justices.
In an amicus brief, computer scientists urged (PDF) the Supreme Court to reverse last year's appeals court decision. "The Federal Circuit’s decision poses a significant threat to the technology sector and to the public," they wrote. "If it is allowed to stand, Oracle and others will have an unprecedented and dangerous power over the future of innovation. API creators would have veto rights over any developer who wants to create a compatible program—regardless of whether she copies any literal code from the original API implementation. That, in turn, would upset the settled business practices that have enabled the American computer industry to flourish, and choke off many of the system’s benefits to consumers."

Popular Chrome extension Hola sold users' bandwidth for botnets
Hola, one of the most popular online services for viewing blocked videos and TV shows from other countries, has turned its users into a botnet without their knowledge. The software, which is available as plugin for the Chrome browser on desktop and mobile devices, had previously been praised for offering an easy-to-use and free service. However, it seems the company has been discreetly selling users' "idle resources" (i.e. their bandwidth) via a separate Luminati brand, allowing anyone to buy traffic in bulk and redirect it to a target site as a denial-of-service attack. Essentially, Hola's users have been unwitting mercenaries in a botnet-for-hire.

This eight-character message causes Skype to endlessly crash
Users on Skype's community forums have discovered a bug that renders the app unusable when a message containing a particular string of characters is received. Sending "http://:" without the quotes crashes the instant messaging service, and since the message is stored in your chat history, every time you sign back in, the app crashes again.
In a statement to VentureBeat, Skype acknowledged the existence of the bug:
"We are aware of the problem and are working to provide an resolution."
The bug seems to affect Skype for Windows, Android and iOS, but not the Mac client. At this stage, if you have the message in your chat history, you will not be able to use the Skype for Windows app, although the mobile platforms are unaffected so long as you don't receive the message when you're using the Android or iOS clients.
Re: Software/Hardware news
In caz ca patiti asta va trebui sa dezinstalti skype si sa puneti o versiune mai veche (de exemplu 6.14)
