NOW THERE’S A POPCORN TIME FOR PORN TOO
Popcorn Time captured the minds of millions of movie, TV and anime pirates over the past year, but there's one group of video enthusiasts who felt left out. The porn fans. A new Popcorn Time fork named Porn Time is now aiming to fill this hole.

porntime“The Internet Is For Porn,” is a phrase commonly heard in popular culture.

While there are plenty of other uses, it’s true that the adult industries are early adopters of many Internet related technologies, from online payments to streaming services.

Porn also contributed to the early popularity of BitTorrent, where adult videos and pictures were often among the most shared files. With this in mind, it’s odd that one of the newest piracy revelations completely ignored the genre.

“How can it be, that Popcorn Time has been around for over a year and no one has made Popcorn Time for PORN? Since everyone knows that the Internet is for porn,” Porn Time developer Richard tells TF.

Faced with this short-coming, Richard decided to pick up the gauntlet and fill this gaping hole. First on his own, and later with help from several other developers. Fast forward a few weeks and the application is ready to go out to the public.

“We’re proud to officially release Porn Time, the first Popcorn Time for porn movies,” Richard says.

Advanced Micro Devices mulling breakup, spinoff
Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices is at the initial stage of reviewing whether to split itself in two or spin off a business, seeking to reverse its fortunes and take on rival Intel Corp, according to three people familiar with the matter.

The deliberations are preliminary and no decision has been made, the people said. The review highlights Chief Executive Lisa Su's determination to consider every possible option to turn the company around.

AMD has asked a consulting firm to help it review its options and draw up scenarios on how a break-up or spin-off would work, the people said this week, asking not to be identified because the deliberations are confidential.

One option under consideration is separating AMD's graphics and licensing business from its server business, which sells processors that power data centers, one of the people said.

AMD had explored such a move in the past and decided against it, the people said. Su, however, who took over as CEO last October, judged that there is merit for the company to at least consider such a possibility again, the people added. There is no certainty that a split or spin-off will occur, the people cautioned.

Google was downloading audio listeners onto computers without consent, say Chromium users
'We don’t know and can’t know what this black box does. But we see reports that the microphone has been activated, and that Chromium considers audio capture permitted'

Want an IPv4 Internet address? Get in line
On Wednesday, for the first time, the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) had to tell an applicant for new Internet addresses to wait. ARIN simply didn’t have any blocks of addresses big enough to satisfy that applicant’s needs.

This day has been coming for some time, according to ARIN President and CEO John Curran. It’s a step on the path toward total depletion of Internet Protocol Version 4 addresses, the type that most devices on the Internet still use. IPv4 only has about 4.3 billion addresses, and the so-called “free pools” administered by official Internet registries like ARIN are close to running out.

Imagination Creates PowerVR GR6500 Low-Power Real-Time Ray Tracing GPU
About three years ago, Imagination acquired Caustic Graphics, which owned IP on hardware specifically designed for ray tracing. Since then, Imagination Technologies has been developing a new PowerVR architecture with this ray tracing hardware built-in, and back at GDC a couple of months ago the company announced this architecture, called Wizard. The company's latest announcement is that it has built a GPU based on this architecture – the PowerVR GR6500 ray tracing GPU.

The idea behind the GPU is simple. It's not a GPU that the company intends to sell to consumers, but rather as a proof of concept to prove to its customers that ray tracing can be accomplished in real-time on a low power platform. Following that, Imagination intends to license out the IP to anyone who wants to implement the PowerVR Wizard architecture, meaning that just about anyone will be able to expand on their GPUs or SoCs with the ray tracing hardware. Therefore, it can make its way to mobile SoCs for phones and tablets, but also potentially to your desktop GPU.
