The Independent: Muslims in Belgium 'dance in the street' following terrorist attacks, claims Interior Minister

A “significant” number of Belgian Muslim population celebrate terrorist attacks, the country's Interior Minister has claimed.
The politican says there is a 'cancer' of extremism running through Belgian society.

Speaking to the Flemish-language newspaper De Standaard, Jan Jambon did not specifically refer to the attacks on Brussels Airport and a metro station last month which left 32 people dead but said there is a “cancer” of extremism running through Belgian society that the government is struggling to fight.

He accused Muslim residents of the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek of attacking police during an operation last month to arrest Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam.

“They threw stones and bottles at police and press during the arrest of Salah Abdeslam. This is the real problem," he said, according to AFP.

“Terrorists we can pick up, remove from society. But they are just a boil. Underneath is a cancer that is much more difficult to treat. We can do it, but it won't be overnight".

David Cameron has sparked a furious row over the contest for the London mayoralty after he accused Labour candidate Sadiq Khan of sharing a platform with an Islamic "extremist".

Angry Labour MPs accused Mr Cameron of racism during Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons as he detailed Mr Khan's nine appearances alongside Sulaiman Ghani, who he said was a supporter of the Islamic State terror group.

The PM was cut off by loud roars and calls of "racist" from the Labour benches, as he said he was "concerned about Labour's candidate for mayor of London", who he said had appeared on a platform "again and again" with Mr Ghani.

As Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn branded the comments "disgraceful", Mr Cameron continued: "This man supports IS... Anyone can make a mistake about who they appear on a platform with. We're not always responsible for what our political opponents say, but if you do it time after time after time, it is right to question your judgement."

On the night of the Paris attacks, it has been reported that Mr Gani appeared at an Islamic question time event in Bedford, where speakers reportedly told British Muslims to "struggle" for an "Islamic state".

He also reportedly called women "subservient" and spoke out against homosexuality.

Bangladesh LGBT editor hacked to death by slamist militants

Police in Bangladesh say two people including a leading gay rights activist and editor at Bangladesh's only LGBT magazine have been hacked to death.

The US ambassador to Bangladesh condemned the killing of Xulhaz Mannan, who also worked at the US embassy.
The two men were murdered two days after a university teacher was hacked to death by suspected Islamist militants.

Since February last year suspected Islamist militants have killed several secular or atheist writers and members of religious minority groups.

Muslim-majority Bangladesh is officially secular but critics say the government has failed to properly address the attacks.

Background

Since the start of the month, four brutal killings have taken place of Bangladeshi activists and their associates. On 7 April, four masked men attacked Nazimuddin Samad, 28, with a machete before shooting him dead. Samad was a student activist who had organised campaigns for secularism on social media. He was named on a “hit list” of 84 bloggers published by a group of radical Islamists in 2013.

On 23 April, Rezaul Karim Siddique, 58, a much-admired university professor was attacked by men carrying machetes as he walked to the bus station in the city of Rajshahi. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by jihadists belonging to Islamic State.

On 25 April, Xulhaz Mannan, 35, the editor of Roopbaan, Bangladesh’s first LGBTI magazine, and his friend Tanay Mojumdar were both hacked to death after a group of attackers posed as couriers to gain entry to Mannan’s apartment.

During 2015, five secular Bangladeshi bloggers were hacked to death using machetes.

The first attack of this kind took place in 2013. For the killings starting in February 2015, not a single person has been held to account.

Bangladeshi authorities continue to criminalise the country’s LGBTI community and, far from offering them security, have urged them to be “less provocative.” Many Bangladeshi LGBTI activists have been forced into exile because of the threats against them.

Daca pentru tine scopul scuza mijloacele n-ai decat. Ce a facut Mandela se numeste terorism, oricat de nobila ii era cauza. Rosa Parks a devenit simbol al miscarii civile si nu a trebuit sa omoare oameni pentru treaba asta, nici MLK, nici Yousafzai, nici Gandhi si nici Tutu. A-i pune pe cei mentionati in aceeasi categorie cu cineva care a supervizat executii barbare impotriva civililor denota ignoranta. A considera ca a muri in chinuri < a fi discriminat rasial este iarasi ignoranta.
